Husky House Restaurant — Restaurant in Nipigon Township

We were travelling through Nipagon recently, and decided to get some takeout supper on the way. We wanted to try Ducky’s but the wait was too long, so we stopped at the Husky restaurant and ordered fish n chips to go. The waitress was pleasant enough and the food was ready in about 10-15 mins. I was watching the meals brought out to the other diners and their meals looked appetizing and the portions were substantial, so I was hoping we would not be disappointed. Unfortunately, we were. While the portions were quite adequate the quality was below par. The 2 pieces of fish were covered in a heavy batter that was very hard on the outside and very gummy on the inside, not properly cooked. The fries were not worth mentioning.

So, I would not recommend ordering fish and chips takeout from here, but from the looks of some of the diners meals, it might be worth trying a sit-down meal here.

We went here because we realized there wouldn't be another place to stop for a long time and they would be the only place that might offer something my gluten intolerant wife could eat. The server really wasn't able to help us with finding a gluten free salad dressing or whether or not the meat was gluten free but we ordered anyway. Adding gluten-free bread and training their staff would be beneficial. The food took longer than expected (about 30 mins) but then we were wonderfully surprised by two giant salads with freshly cooked real meat (the picture showed sandwich meat which normally contains gluten). One of the worst places I ever recall eating at. Food was terrible, service was equally bad.

We are a family of four. We ordered Burger and fries, chicken fingers and fries, 2 poutine. Food took an hour to arrive and was barely warm. One poutine had a hair in it. The Burger bun was so dry it was inedible, it fell to pieces just picking it up. The waitress never came back to see how our food was at all so two of us were unable to eat our meals.
