Border Town Market Cafe — Restaurant in North Kawartha

It’s frustrating when we find places like this on our travels. We were looking for a quick bite to eat while in the area working and despite being super busy they made room for us. The smell of bacon wafts at you when you open the door and the no frills “flip job” reno they’ve done just fits the bill inside. A simple easy to read menu stares down at you above the kitchen arch from which the loud hum of the hood fan fills the room. We ordered a Border Town burger, a bacon and potato soup, BLT and home fries. They don’t serve French fries which is strange but as an alternative the home fries are just as filling and give you that salty starch kick. They’d given my Border Town burger (with pea meal) away and mistakingly served up a cheeseburger as well. It’s loud, the tables are cheap, they brought me the wrong burger and we had to park on the curb but we just couldn’t help but leave here smiling. The food was so fresh it makes you wonder why you can’t get this everywhere. Fast friendly service with a smile and prices that step back in time. It’s no wonder this little gem is busy and we cannot wait to go back. The butter tarts and organic dark roast coffee we ordered to go were a perfect reminder of this imperfect yet memorable lunch experience that we wish we could have...

GREAT!!! FABULOUS!!! DELICIOUS!!! The atmosphere is very friendly and the family is so nice and very welcoming. Sooooo much food my husband had a cheeseburger and I had the chicken sandwich (both on homemade bun) we shared a fry at lunch time and we didn't need a supper! A hydro worker that sat near us ordered a club sandwich and it was HUGE!!! He could not believe how big it was. We took a chocolate chip cookie to go and had it the next day.....we will be in next week to get more and can't wait to try the brownies and butter tarts....

This is a cute cafe and market in Glen Alda. They have a great assortment of cheese and baked goods. The cafe also offers a nice variety of sandwiches and delicious home cut fries. The only downside is that they are so popular that they ran out of ingredients for half the sandwiches on the menu by the time we arrived around 1 pm and it took over a half hour to get our food. It seems like the smart thing to do is call in your order so that it's ready when you arrive. Would definitely recommend...
