My husband and I went to Bailey's this past week. New residents to the area, we thought we would try out one of the local spots. We intended to have breakfast on the patio, on a very warm summer morning. We were instantly met with hostility from the hostess as my husband was not wearing a mask. He explained he has a medical mask exemption (mental health disability) and she continued to say no service without a mask and to call the Health Inspector. Last we checked, this is against the Human Rights Code. As per the Ontario.ca website "You do not need to wear a face covering if you:
have a medical condition that inhibits your ability to wear a face covering are unable to put on or remove your face covering without help from someone else are receiving accommodations according to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 or the Human Rights Code"
Even on the Hastings Public Heath website, on the Masks and face Covers page it clearly states, "While individuals who refuse to wear a face covering should indicate why they are exempt from the regulations, they do not need to provide proof of exemption..... While businesses/establishments are encouraged to allow access to individuals who are exempt from face covering requirements, they are entitled to refuse access to those who do not wear face coverings so long as they offer alternate methods of service.... HPEPH recognizes that certain individuals may be unable to wear a face covering. While individuals should indicate why they are exempt from these requirements, there is no need for establishments to request proof of exemption from these individuals. HPEPH continues to ask for the cooperation of establishments and community members to carry out these requirements with respect and kindness."
We were told no mask, no service. Hopefully, this can be rectified with some clarity on the issue from the health inspector, so that others with a disability are not violated of their rights in the future.
Needless to say, we took our business elsewhere, and we wont...
Read moreAs long-time club members and loyal patrons of Baileys, we’ve always appreciated the consistently delicious food and welcoming atmosphere. I’ve often recommended this spot to friends and family, especially for the quality of the breakfast — it truly stands out.
Unfortunately, our recent visit left us feeling disappointed and unwelcome. Despite understanding that the restaurant was busy, we waited 20 minutes just to have our drink orders taken, and over 35 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. In total, we were at the restaurant for well over an hour, which is far from our usual experience.
What truly impacted our visit, however, was the interaction with the manager on duty. When we calmly brought up our concerns, her response was dismissive and laced with attitude. Her comment — comparing Baileys to a fast-food chain — felt unprofessional and unnecessary. We know Baileys isn’t McDonald’s — that’s exactly why we choose to dine here. But that interaction made us feel as though our presence and loyalty were not valued.
It’s disheartening to feel unwelcome at a place we’ve come to enjoy and support. While the food remains excellent, the manager’s demeanor has led us to reconsider our membership and whether we’ll continue to dine at this location.
We hope this feedback is taken constructively, as we truly want to see Baileys continue to thrive — with hospitality that matches the quality...

This was our first (and absolutely last) time at Bailey’s Restaurant, and it was a mess from start to finish. I asked for no onions on my burger...guess what? Full of onions. My friend ordered bacon bits and didn’t even get them. Meanwhile, people who came in 10 minutes after us were served before us, while we waited nearly 30 minutes for a single fry, a Caesar salad, and one cheeseburger. Impressive.
No one checked on us once. When the food finally arrived, I found a mystery piece of old bacon in my fries, which is extra weird because bacon wasn’t even part of my order. Cleanliness? Nonexistent.
And then, in the middle of our meal, someone reached over our table to remove a hanging plant and water it. Couldn’t wait until we were done eating? Apparently not.
They also mixed up our bills, gave the wrong person my apology discount and acted rude and snotty to us like we were the problem. No to-go boxes (even though we asked for them), no real apology, and absolutely no reason to ever go back.
If you enjoy poor service, mystery meat, and being treated like an inconvenience, Bailey’s might just be your spot.
-Sincerely the customers you severally disappointed and...
