This is gonna be a tough one for some of you... I've been here a couple times now and here's the deal. The fish and chips is alright at best. The chips don't have enough seasoning and I asked for my chips to be well-done, though they had the color they didn't have that crunch. It seems that the starch isn't removed before frying and the chip moves like a worm when you wiggle it. The crispy crunch one would want or expect isn't there. The fish is well seasoned, fresh (no fishy taste) but doesn't have that crunch tradition fish and chips normally have. Also potentially still healthier then a deep fried battered fish it doesn't hold that traditional fish and chip feel. Another big issue was the ratio of chips compared to fish for $18.50. I wish we got a bit more fish and a bit less chips. The 2nd thing we got was the 40 creek burger and a poutine. The burger bun was good, toppings were okay and burger patty was a average frozen patty that's thawed and grilled. It's not a custom in house ground and seasoned kind which I feel would take it to the next level. The 40 creek smoky flavored sauce was nice had a great smoky taste but I feel something was missing. Maybe more of a creaminess to it? The poutine with cheese curds was real nice but again I wish the fries had more of a crunch...a side of gravy on its own is a bit salty but on the fries it gives it the seasoning it's missing. I can see the appeal and easy off the road access to food but truly I've had better fish and chip elsewhere. I also don't like the after meal feeling. If your a person that loves greasy heavy food then this is the spot to stop, personally I like to feel light and energized after a meal. This left me feeling sluggish and tired. If you wanna feel nourished and light maybe the chicken wrap or salad would be better options. They have a nice indoor and outdoor dining spot and all the wood craved structures are beautiful There is a convenience store there but some of the stuff is real damn expensive. You can get the same type of amber maple syrup from the farmers market for less. The hids there are beautiful but...
Read moreUnsure what all the complaints are about since I drove 3,000 km across Quebec and Ontario during my vacation this summer ant this place was the BEST culinary experience for $20
Being a vegetarian I went with the Impossible Beef burger and Greek salad which ended up being a HUGE portion to enjoy amongst friendly drivers from all over Canada.
Service took 15 minutes, but being a popular pit stop on the Trans Canadian Highway one wondered why so many people were willingly waiting in the burning sun. Well, they had picnic tables, WIFI, cheap gas and more importantly excellent service. Drivers spoke to staff if they had been to this place hundred times before which they probably had!
The one thing I almost missed because it's hidden behind some huge wooden bears was the ice-cream parlor next to the Fish & Ships joint. OMG - the quality of that scoop was the best I had in a very long time! They should do a combo deal with the restaurant so more people get to enjoy the experience.
Folks, if you eat junk food on a regular basis it becomes hard to know if fries are from Costco or home made. Treat yourself to local food options like this fine place instead of American fast food joints. You are on vacation so...
Read moreJust ate some famous Jocko Point Fish and Chips. They were highly recommended. My wife and I shared a 4 pc meal, $29. We ordered it poached, not deep fried. Somehow, that meant we had at least a 15 minute wait. So we stood outside, in the wind and rain, at 3C, waiting for our order, atleast 10 minutes before the staff told us they would bring the order to us, so we could get out of the rain. Turns out, we wanted to eat at the Dining Room, where we could have sat down inside, while waiting for our order. They page your order number inside the Dining Room! No one told us that either. After waiting another 5 minutes, I finally went to the pickup counter and asked for an update on our order, which had not been started yet!!! Yikes, it takes maybe 2 minutes to poach the fish fillets? The 2 customers who ordered after us got served ahead of us.. because it was a poached not deep fried order? 2 minutes to poach the fish, tops.... Anyways, finally got our food, the fish was fine, the fries were really good. All told I think it took us 45 minutes for take out, from ordering to leaving. The fish was fine, but, honestly, there so little of it, we are making supper tonight, and we ate...
