One of the History Channel’s popular television shows uses the expression: High Strangeness Not far away from the Shady Pine Family Restaurant is a location of ‘High Strangeness’.
On Goggle Map, the intersection of Chatham-Kent Highway 18 and Ontario King’s Highway 40 is designated as ‘Riverside Trailer Park’ where there is nothing in the surrounding area but farmers’ fields. However, a small genuine trailer park called ‘Riverside Estates’ does exist about a mile away up near the Shady Pine Family Restaurant.
Pictures on the walls of the Shady Pine Family Restaurant depict a long lengthy history of various commercial uses for the surrounding property with the only current visible connection to the past being the small warm rustic remnants of the building. The choice of wooden décor reminds one of the ‘Days of Yesteryear’ when windup phone receivers, wireless radio and telegraph wires predated smart phones, Digital Flat Screens and the WiFi Internet.
I’ve never personally interviewed the folks operating the restaurant, but I suspect a fair number of the folks working there have relatives who’ve walked the former wooden floor boards for more years than one can count!

When I brought it up, the staff member explained it was real turkey and kindly offered me something else. She also didn’t charge me for the half I had eaten, which I appreciated.
On a positive note, the raisin butter tarts were amazing, and the fish and chips my family members ordered were delicious and clearly homemade. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Despite the issue with the sandwich, I’d definitely give this place...
Read moreI used to like this restaurant. The last time i was there I ordered an omelete. I found a hair cooked inside of it. So I ate my toast and waited for the waitress to come over. I proceeded to tell her , and she said "well theres nothing I can do about it now. You come in here frequently ill take it off your next bill." I went maybe once every 6 months, so no.... i was not a frequent visitor. It should have been offered to recook my omelete, or take it off the bill. I did not eat it. Charge me for the toast sure....but the omelete? No.
All in all it was a terrible experience for me. My husband enjoyed his breakfast, but sadly we had to pay full price for a meal I did not eat. I won't...
