Ah, a cheeseburger seems like an obvious and easy pick at a place called the Burger Pit. But maybe not so. Granted I stopped by on a rainy day in the off-season, and at 2PM was the only patron, but that does not or at least should not justify such a sub-par meal.
The bun (as seen in the picture) was crushed and pressed into a thin layer of baked dough. As for the party, over-processing seems to be the culprit for making a flavorless and dry culinary venture.
Since the sign inside the store reads “if you find something wrong please tell us”, I will: dear Burger Pit, drop the buns you are using. Try to find a vendor that can get you fresh gourmet kaiser-like buns to elevate your sandwiches. If they can’t, invest in a small oven and bake fresh ones daily from frozen dough. The same goes for your patties; fresh and juicy ones, rightly seasoned beef would let the world know you are serious about making great burgers, and not just surviving on being one of only a couple of options catering to the mainly tourist traffic passing by highway 11.
If and when you do, I’d love to return and have a great meal with you in this beautiful part of Ontario. Let’s...
Read moreI was recommended to go to the Burger Pit up in oromodonte on the way to Orillia by my dentist office. It didn't disappoint, I was so full after my meal. I was with someone else and we both had a cheeseburger, which you can choose your own toppings for, plus we ordered onion rings however, because we told him it was our first time there and it had been recommended to us, he threw in a scoop of french fries. The gentleman behind the counter was super happy, and very friendly service. The atmosphere is very hamburger joint from the '70s. Nothing wrong with that, that's what makes it an institution the fact that has listed the test of time. I highly recommend you visit the Burger Pit, next time you're hitting North on Highway 11 going through to Orillia, Bracebridge or Huntsville. You won't be disappointed. Far better than Weber's. I think people go to Weber's because it's their tradition on their drive to...
Read moreEvery few weeks my wife and I have a craving for a good burger and our go to spot is the Burger Pit. We've been going to this place for several years now and haven't been disappointed once. The reasons we keep coming back are the fresh ingredients, friendly staff and the taste of their cooking is great.
One thing I will say, if you are on the way to the cottage and need a burger fix, stop here. Their burgers blow the ones from Weber's out of the water. As an added bonus, there isn't the around the block line up you suffer through at Weber's to contend with.
If there was one thing I would criticize these guys for, it's not being open in the winter. But with the lack of traffic I can see why the close. Better a three season restaurant with good food then a closed restaurant...
