The Kitcheness — Restaurant in Ottawa

Owner Sarah was busy preparing cranberry sauce when we randomly found this jewel. We were travelling north towards Algonquin Park and googled lunch options at North Gower. We were stunned to find vegan and gluten free options in such a tiny town, and I looked twice to make sure I wasn't being redirected to Ottawa!

My lunch companion had a gf sandwich made to order and we both loved the spicy Thai chicken soup on a cool fall day. I topped off my meal with a pumpkin-gingerbread square. It was so delicious that ordinary pumpkin pie is now lost on me!

There were hearty meals to go, salads, a range of desserts, both gluten free and traditional flour based. All served by Sarah's kind and accommodating assistant.

Google maps' GPS will take you there, but the shop is small and we did circle the block looking for it. Take a close look at the store front in my photo to know what you are 5 for. The shop is set up for take out but has comfy cafe seating.

A Great Find in North Gower with Fantastic Sandwiches! They have a fantastic selection of freshly made paninis and soups, with lots of choices available. I also appreciate that they post their daily specials online, special mention to the Thursday roast beef special – it was amazing! On top of the main courses, their dessert selection is impressive, with lots of cheesecake and other sweet treats. I found the prices for the soups and paninis to be reasonable. My only piece of feedback is that the prices for the takeaway meals seemed a little high compared to the paninis. I think the value would be even better if the portions included more protein or were slightly larger for the price. Overall, it's a fantastic local spot, and I'll definitely be back for...

Very friendly, welcoming and capable server. Food fresh and delicious. Pastries and speciality drinks decadent. I was very impressed with the variety and assortment of menu items given the size of the store. Refrigerated prepared- meals a nice option for seniors and busy Moms. Several customers clearly regulars, were known by name! Lunch rush and there was standing room only. Clean and tastefully decorated. Furnishings minimal, but ample. AC was very welcome. I highly recommend this 'little oasis' to any hungry travellers passing through. Well supported by local folk and that speaks volumes. Good food @...
