Nature’s Corner: The Tale of three tries!
I wanted to love Nature’s Corner. Truly, I did. It’s charmingly country, like stepping into your grandma’s kitchen—if grandma had a retail side hustle and forgot what seasoning was. Unfortunately, three visits later, I’m left wondering if my taste buds are broken, or if theirs are.
Visit #1 Ordered two sandwiches to go. Waited 25 minutes. The sandwiches were fine, I guess—if “fine” means I had plenty of time to learn interpretive dance while waiting.
Visit #2 Grilled cheese and a side salad. The salad tasted like dirt but somehow also tasteless (is that a paradox?). The grilled cheese was loaded with seeds. SEEDS. I had no idea I was ordering a “bird-approved” grilled cheese. If I wanted squirrel food, I’d raid the park.
Visit #3 This time we went for the gold: an egg sandwich, a grilled cheese (on focaccia, thank God no seeds), and a bottle of water. The sandwiches? Disappointing again. The egg sandwich was the size of a Hawaiian roll—tiny! And the grilled cheese? Bland. How do you mess up grilled cheese? It’s literally bread and cheese!
Then came the water debacle. I asked for bottled water. They asked if I wanted ice. Why would I need ice in bottled water? Turns out, it wasn’t bottled. It tasted like dog water filtered through bleach. I felt both lied to and concerned for my kidneys.
The people? Super friendly. The place? A weird hybrid of country store, grandma’s kitchen, and sterile café vibes. The food? Just no.
Suggestion for the Grilled Cheese Revamp Dear Nature’s Corner,
Please, for the love of cheese, here’s how you can save the grilled cheese:
Start with fresh focaccia brushed with garlic butter before grilling.
Use good cheese: a blend of sharp cheddar, gruyere, and a touch of mozzarella for the gooey stretch factor.
Add a thin layer of caramelized onions for sweetness.
Optional: a sprinkle of chili flakes or a drizzle of honey for a flavor kick.
Grill until crispy and golden, not soggy.
Serve with a side of homemade tomato bisque because grilled cheese without soup is just sad.
This recipe could save lives—or at least save your grilled cheese reputation.
If they take my advice, I might consider risking a fourth visit. But for now, Nature’s Corner is a hard...
Read moreI previously drove the public transit bus from Fenwick to Welland and from day 1 My wife fell in love with Nature Corner bakery and cafe. Frequently she would call ahead order me a coffee and herself one with almond milk. As she has many food intolerances she loved this place for their gluten free bread and gluten free carrot muffins. She would always order either gluten free toast or a gluten free carrot muffin. During Covid a lot changed as it did everywhere my bus route was cancelled . We live approx 20 minutes away and we would order from them 1x a week for most of the Pandemic. Once things began to ease the company I drove for gave me another job which did not take me past this little gem. My wife however loves it. In the past 9 months seems like not just a few however many have discovered this little gem which we are thrilled for them. They still continue to make the gluten free bread but seems like they have reduced the amount of gluten free carrot muffins that they make. It seems it doesn't matter whether it is 9 am, 12:30 pm or 2 pm they always seem to be out of these particular muffins, however they seem to have their banana chocolate chip gluten free or apple cinnamon gluten free muffins which my wife cannot have either of them. They tell her to either get the ones they have frozen or offer one of the others which she cannot have. We order them when we would like to have a fresh one to eat at that time not frozen one. What has gone wrong here? It is sad as they seem to always have enough of the other 2 not the carrot ones I understand supply and demand but this seems...
Read moreAte here the other week. Great place, everyone is very friendly. The grilled cheese is top notch, they elevate it by adding some sun dried tomatoes which turns out to be a great touch! My girlfriend often orders it and she usually despises tomatoes. Few times I have ordered the ham and cheese sandwich, you can tell they use fresh bread and the ham is nicely portioned into many small slices which gives it a nice texture and a pleasure to devour. However the pastries are the best part. Tried the cakes (carrot is the best) and have never been disappointed. They have quite a few different types of muffins, scones and squares all fresh and delicious. I usually go for the lemon squares as I’m a big fan of lemon. The pastry chef is incredible at what they do! Coffee wise, I like iced coffee and as you would expect from a coffee place it is fresh and tasty coffee.
They have a freezer as well with bread and quiche, I picked up one of the quiche and it was great for a quick dinner.
Definitely a hidden gem, I can’t tell enough people about this place. I have never confirmed but hopefully they do...
