I took my 3 kids to see PIRATES ON THE BAY ARRRGGG lol. Around 2:00 we decided to get my hungry little pirates some lunch. Captain Roberts was close so we walked over. The waitress came over and said ..ummm...errr I'll be right back. I would say the restaurant was half full. We waited about 5 minutes until another waitress came over and said hi...is someone helping You? I said she came over but said she would be back. This waitress said ohhh...ok well do you want that table ..and she pointed to one that was dirty. She the ran over and cleaned it off quickly. Then she handed my son the menu and said go ahead. So we walked to our table.
The other waitress came back and asked what we wanted to eat and drink 5 minutes after we sat down. Unfortunately no kids menu. So we ordered at about 2:10or so. We sat at the table till 3:15 until our food finally came. My wife and I ordered fish and chips and my kids had burgers. The fish and chips looked like the frozen box kind. The French fries were 100% mcain. All tasted horrible my wife didn't finish it.
We finished eating at about 3:30 and waited for the waitress. She never came back. I thought maybe I have to go to the front and pay? I went up to the front and stood there with my card in hand as the three servers kept passing me grunting and groaning on how busy it is. I finally walked around till I found my waitress and asked for the bill. She asked me....ok...who is your waitress? I said YOU ! She was like me? YES...you. oh ..ok one second.
She came back 10 minutes later with a card machine that wasn't working properly. The bill for 2 store bought frozen fish and chips and 2 burgers with 2 drinks came to $79 Lol I still gave a $10 tip and we walked out. At after 4:00.
I understand they were probably not used to the amount of customers. But all of the wait staff were complaining about it. You could see how frustrated they were so busy. It was not a good feeling to see this. I was hoping the food would make up...and I honestly can't believe they sell this kid of food there. I...
Read moreOur family visited Discovery Harbour on Aug 7th while in Penatanguishene. As an afterthought, we decided to stop at Captain Robert's Table for lunch. That turned out to be a fantastic decision.
It was a beautiful sunny day so we sat on the deck overlooking the spectacular harbour. . Apparently under new management/ownership, I can't say enough about how excellent all four of our meals were.
My wife and I both had the Bacon One eggs benedict, while the kids had the Captain's Burger and the Avocado Caesar salad.
Having worked in restaurants in the past, I tend to be very critical of everything. Honestly I couldn't find a single fault. My benny came with the eggs cooked exactly as requested -slightly runny - as did my wife's, who likes her eggs firm. The bacon was crisp but not overdone, the home fries hot and delicious. The plate presentation was very attractive with fresh watermelon, cantaloupe and an orange slice. Both of us ate everything on our plates including the fruit which was firm, fresh and full of flavour.
My son remarked that his Captain's Burger was "juicy, tasty and dang good!". The arugula was fresh and the fried egg again was cooked to perfection. The garlic aioli was flavorful, the sweet potato bun was soft and fluffy and his french fries too were hot and crispy. My daughter's salad was equally fresh with grated parmesan, focaccia croutons and slices of perfect avocado served with creamy avocado vinaigrette on the side. The kids both cleaned their plates as well.
The staff were very friendly and our waiter the right amount of attentive. The manager Amanda came by to check on us. I noticed that she visited every other table as well. Having worked in the trade, I know these little things add to the complete experience. I highly recommend Captain Robert's Table for delicious food in a picturesque setting. The 5 stars are...
Read moreWe ventured to Midland for the butter tart festival, a gathering so immense it made finding a restaurant feel like an Olympic sport. Google suggested Captain Robert's Table, a waterfront oasis we practically needed a compass and a Sherpa to find, tucked away in a residential labyrinth.
Upon arrival, the packed parking lot suggested Midland's entire population had the same brilliant escape plan. Yet, inside? Crickets! Turns out, everyone else was at the theater, and we'd stumbled into a culinary sweet spot – the calm before the storm, if you will.
A friendly face seated us immediately. Our server, bless her heart, then dropped the bombshell: no liquor license, new ownership. A minor hiccup, as our quest for butter tarts had already pickled our senses.
While waiting for our food, we explored the restaurant. Think grand beams, high ceilings, and a rock fireplace that looked ready for a hobbit convention. The bathrooms, however, required a spelunking expedition to the basement – fairly clean, but a bit of an adventure.
Then the food arrived, and oh, the food! The fries, often overlooked, were legendary – seriously, best I've ever had, and homemade to boot. My "Golden Trailblazer" burger? A delicious, trailblazing triumph.
Our impeccable timing, it turns out, was pure luck. We snuck in at 1:50 PM, just before they slammed the doors shut for a two-hour siesta (2 PM to 4 PM). Many less fortunate souls were turned away, bewildered and probably hangry. This little detail isn't on their website, so consider yourself warned!
Captain Robert's Table is a hidden gem worth the trek, especially if you time it right. Just don't expect a pre-dinner pint or an open door...
