Let's start with the pros. I get why people come here. It feels very homey. I am from Toronto and I must say, they have a unique concept. The entire restaurant is mixed with the gift shop. You go to the washroom, there are aprons and dresses for sale. Almost everywhere you look there's something handmade or local items for sale which is neat. Mostly old people come and eat here. Wait tome for a saturday lunch time was 30 mins. They have you sign up through their iPad which is very efficient and you get a text. Here is the con: The food. Not sure why it was featured on You gotta eat here. Maybe because they have wide selection of pies. I went to St. Jacob's farmers market and Google Anna Mae's so I thought why not. I must say that it is very disappointing. Coming from an Asian background, I am used to eating flavorful food. We ordered fish and chips and the broasted chicken platter . Quantity is good for 3-4 to share, personally. Platter came with soup or salad. We chose the potato and ham soup with cheese dinner roll which is 10/10. Maybe best soup and roll I had. We chose mixed veggies and mash potatoes for sides. Platter came with 3 pieces of chicken; for about $25 plus pie as our dessert. Ikea mash potato is better. This mash potato didn't have any taste. I chose mixed veggies thinking it was fresh. Mind you, the place is surrounded by farms and the farmers market was selling mix and match veggies for 6 for $10. To my disappointment, mixed veggies is literally the frozen ones ( corn, peas beans carrots). I don't get it. Bland potato and frozen veggies is giving prison food. The chicken, it looks healthy and they are huge portions;Fried but not like the fast food. I'd give it 6/10 just because it needed more spice than salt. The peach pie was ok. The fish and chips was bland too. We had to remove the crispy part at it was oily and just plain flour. No taste. I had better fish and chips at Nations. After eating, they expect you to line up in the bakery/ gift shop. I think it's a sales tactic because it would be an impulse buy if you are not careful. There was no other place to pay. I saw a sign near the entrance that says please pay here but there was nobody there so I lined up in the bakery. Definitely this place is something you can check out while you are in the are but not you goal destination. Get a small Platter, skip the mixed veggies...

We started our day with antique and vintage hunting in St. Jacobs. We went on a Friday when the farmer's market was closed so the traffic between St. Jacobs and Millbank wasn't unbearable. If you're starting in St. Jacobs, expect at least a 20-minute drive to Anna Mae's.
Anna Mae's has a sizeable parking lot, but it was already full when we arrived for lunch, even on a weekday. We had to wait a short amount of time for a table (but less than 10 minutes). If you're there on a weekend or on a day the St. Jacobs Farmer's Market is open you might want to think about calling ahead and making a reservation.
The restaurant is quaint and homey, with rustic touches and a relaxed atmosphere. Homemade crafts, including quilts, tote bags, and children's clothing adorn the walls and are available to purchase. If it weren't for the other patrons you would feel as if you were dining in someone's personal home.
The menu is simple, and everything is very reasonably priced. I opted for the "small" portion of broasted chicken (dark meat) with French fries, carrots, and a homemade bun. I was surprised at how hearty the small portion was as they presented me with a plate absolutely overflowing with food. I don't think I could have handled a regularly-sized portion, especially because I wasn't leaving without trying a homemade dessert!
After our meal we browsed the attached bakery shop, which has a wide selection of pies, baked goods, frozen foods, cheeses, and gifts to take home. I bought six honey-dipped doughnuts for the road.
All in, three meals, three desserts, three pops, six doughnuts, and tip only set me back $87. Not bad at all.
I would absolutely visit again on a trip to St. Jacobs.
Pros: Hearty, stick-to-your-ribs food Healthy portions Delicious homemade desserts
Cons: Can get incredibly busy resulting in significant wait times Debit or cash only (no...
Read moreAnna Mae’s Bakery & Restaurant is a small town in South Western Ontario called Millbank, Ontario which is Wellesley Township and my wife and I were told about this restaurant by another family member who was told by friends that it was amazing, so today we decide to check them out.
During our visit we arrived around 12 noonish and the resturant was very busy and there was about 35 minute wait to be seated which wasn’t a problem but in it really only took about 20ish minutes. Upon being seating we greeted by a nice young lady as our waitress. She took our order briskly and got us our drinks and apps.
As you can see in the pictures my wife had the soup of the day (creme potato ham) ( which she ordered more in a take out container to bring home as she found it to be so yummy).
Myself I had the Ceaser salad which was also very, very tasty and was not dry, and had plenty of dressing on it and bacon bits and crotons and the portion size was also awesome and both the soup and salad were apart of our meal deals as in our meal deal we got salad/soup; main dish with meat, veggie/coleslaw, potatoes of your choice so fries or mashed and the dessert. All for a very fair price of 23.95!
The dessert was equally as amazing and tasty. My wife had lemon meringue pie, I had strawberry rhubarb pie after we hit the bakery we purchased some items you can see pictured. Cheese cake, tarts, candle, tea, a bag, buns plain and cheese, peanut butter cookies, apple fritters, pink squares. Every one of their staff was friendly and helpful and customer service was totally amazing. And while we were there my wife said to me “ I think, I would like to come here for my birthday, as this is now my favorite restaurant.”
This was our very first visit to Anna Mae’s but I will say they are worth the 30 minute drive to Millbank any day…. For great food and...
