Place was a godsend! We arrived in the park, after a fair amount of driving, settled tent, etc. This is when we needed a good pick me up to help keep us going. Freya & Thor is located shortly before you enter the National Park, off the Cabot Trail in Chéticamp so, we had to backtrack just a bit, nothing crazy. I myself got an Americano and a freshly baked brownie. The latter was recommended by the owner Erin. My spouse was looking for something cold and she was recommended the salted caramel cold late. Freshly ground and brewed, the coffee hit the spot like no other! The brownie was perfect, light and flavourful. The cold drink was refreshing amazingly tasty with the whip and drizzle. It’s a cool little spot! There’s a little deck area to enjoy your goodies which is next to a small body of water. There was an older gentleman and lady offering live music when we were there, acoustic guitar and some flute action. It was quite pleasant. Oh! And free wifi!

We stopped here for the first time on our way up the Cabot Trail, in Chéticamp, on a chilly, overcast day, and it was exactly what we needed. The gallery is full of beautiful local art and trinkets, with a side room dedicated to rug-hooking kits and works for sale. I ordered the salted caramel latte, and it was perfectly sweet, syrupy, and salty, the best kind of warm-up for the rest of our road trip. When I asked the owner of the rug-hooking shop whether a particular kit would make a piece like one on display, her simple “no” caught me off guard, until she explained that the artist had been rug-hooking for over 50 years, and every piece turns out differently depending on tension and technique. Her words really stuck with me: crafts and art shouldn’t be done in pursuit of perfection. We each bring our own touch and uniqueness to it, and that’s so special.

Freya and Thor is the perfect place to stop by if you appreciate creativity and supporting local artists! My partner and I stopped in to look for some gifts to bring back home to share a piece of Nova Scotia with our friends and family. We had been searching for some time for a really good place to get some art and this shop was exactly what we were looking for. There is a large selection of art curated by Erin and her husband for you to look through - prints, paintings, felt dolls, hand carved wooden sculptures, baskets, mugs, jewelry (and so much more)! Everything in the store was unique and good quality for a reasonable price. Stop by the cafe next to the shop on your way out! Definitely worth the visit if you’re in Cheticamp.

8/11/2024 -Breakfast at Freya and Thor Gallery and Café - Cheticamp The terrible breakfast at Laurie’s in Cheticamp led us to visit Freya and Thor for breakfast. This was far more than breakfast. It was an experience. The owner Matt took great pride in his service, his breakfast sandwiches and his coffee. You could sit inside or outdoors undercover in this really eclectic setting that looked like something out of a roadside rest stop 30 years ago. Go to their website to see exactly what I mean. The building is absolutely unique and I highly recommend a visit, both for breakfast and a visit to the adjoining gallery. This is a must stop if you are going through Cheticamp. Rate this stop a 4 out of 5 for the unique character of the place as well as the quality of breakfast. Go early as this is a very popular place and runs out of parking quickly. ...
