Auberge Villa Des Frontières — Restaurant in Pohénégamook

We looked at the internet site and found something that seemed rather promising. ||Nice looking place, great view, spacious rooms, good rate and the dining room menu was quite interesting. ||They post the dinner and breakfast menus on the site and we were looking forward to eating there while looking at the lake.||||Surprise! We were greeted with a warm welcome to a bar that smelled like someone had been smoking in there and there were dirty clothes hanging on the leather chairs ... ||Then we were told that the restaurant is not opened because business is slow!||We were told to go accross the road to a diner, which by the way turned out to be ok.||||The room was so small that only one of could walk around at ounce and do not expect privacy since the doors do not fit in the door frames too well andnyou can almost see in other people's rooms, so be quiet! ||||Finally, we had a ok night since we were the only customers in the place.||Then came another surprise, the dining room is closed for breakfast as well!!||Ho, and that morning wenwere greeted by a man sleeping on one of the bar chairs, wearing socks ! Lol we had to laugh||End of the story, we are so not...

Some previous reviews make it sound like the Auberge is semi-deserted, or else staffed by rude individuals. Our experience was totally different, and couldn't have been a nicer stay. The management should however inform people making bookings that the restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, closed on Wednesday and Thursday, and open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Friday and Saturday. Perhaps the reviewers who found no staff on site were there on Wednesday or Thursday? We found the lady at reception very friendly and helpful (she came to our room when we had trouble getting the Keurig to work), and called in a younger girl to speak to us in English after our struggling attempts in French. Also in the restaurant our server spoke to us in English. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Be warned, the restaurant can be extremely busy on Saturdays and for breakfast on Sunday -- reservations are advised. And yes, the food is very good, and the view is gorgeous. I would have given five stars if the rooms had lakefront balconies, and not just a window looking out...
