Red's Diner — Restaurant in Quinte West

Have eaten here with my kids probably a dozen times and it has always been 5 star, however on this occasion, even though the food itself was very good, my 2 young teenagers had ordered hot chocolate. The hot chocolates were so watery as to be almost tasteless. I blame myself for not pointing this out to one of the servers. I should have and failed to do so. What was more disappointing was the fact that around 12:45 the staff started placing the chairs upside down on to the empty tables and then proceeded to start mopping the floors. I thought to myself, wow they must want to get an early start to closing the restaurant for 1 PM until I realised that Reds closes at 2 PM. More people were entering the restaurant at around 1:15 and half the tables had upside down chairs on them while 1 of the staff was mopping the floors. This was extremely unprofessional and of course makes most people feel like they are in the way and the staff wants their customers to leave as soon as possible. This was on Sunday Dec 18th as I recall because it was the same day as the Mens Soccer World Cup Final. We will probably dine here again as it has always been 5 Star on the other occasions but never again past noon, and if the hot chocolate is as watery as it was on this day, I will definitely not be shy about mentioning this and asking for...

We went for breakfast today and service was friendly, place looked clean, food was yummy and came quickly and had no complaints... Until we got the bill (which is the reason for the lower review). When we placed our order, we were asked “do you want green peppers, cheese, onions, and mushrooms in your home fries?” And the way it was phrased made it seem like it was just something offered with the fries at no cost. We get the bill and found we were charged an extra $7.50 for the add ons! Not once was an extra cost mentioned when this was offered when we placed our order and when I mentioned it to the girl at the cash, she awkwardly just told us it was just the way it is. Just left a really sour taste in our mouth after what was a pleasant experience and for this reason I don’t see us coming back. If you’re going to charge people extra for something you’re proactively offering, it needs to be said upfront. Especially when we got the exact same amount of food on the plate as everyone who just got regular home fries - didn’t even get extra food for the extra...

Phoned in an order. Didn't know until I got there that they were cash only (saw nothing mentioned in a Google search). Didn't have cash, didn't trust their ATM since I've had my info stolen off similar ATM's so I apologized but had to cancel my order.....5 minutes later, on my way home, the person who I assumed was the owner called me and told me I could e-transfer/use a local ATM/etc....I told them it was too late and I needed to get home (very young kids at home and my wife was recovering from surgery).

Owner said I was now banned and tried to guilt trip me into how I basically stole from them.

Fine by me, I get their point of view but they weren't interested in my point of view. I'm sure their food is good, but not a fan of the attitude.
