The Galley — Restaurant in Rideau Lakes

Hope is the best server we have ever had and we travel lots. A complete gem of an employee. We walked in with a reservation and it seems like the staff was doing rock paper scissors on who got us since we had a toddler... Well I guess Hope lost but you would never know because she greeted us with a smile, acknowledged our toddler and engaged with her. She was honest about her recommendations of the menu which allowed us all to order something we were pleased with. Don't let her slip away because she is the heart of your business and deserves all the praise.

We came on mother's day and the mamas sangria was absolutely THE BEST I have had. My mom is not a drinker and even she mentioned how amazing this drink was so that says more than me.

The atmosphere was wonderful and the views beautiful. If you have older kids or just adults, sit in the bar because it is fresh, clean and new but honestly a modern loveliness to their rustic boathouse vibe.

Please put a soft close onto your front door. That is my biggest complaint, holy cow it is like an outhouse door slamming behind you and unpleasant for your inhouse diners.

I really can't complain but I honestly can't stress about how lovely Hope is and I wish that whoever goes there gets...

The very best thing I can say about this place is the server,. Shaelyn. An amazing young lady that professionally handled what the cook had messed up. 4 fish and chip dinners had to be returned. We could not cut into the fish because it was as hard as a rock. I also had made reservations for the evening for 7 people and when we arrived they had us down for the following week. I hesitated about making this review because I don't want it to reflect on our waitress, however ,this was the worst experience I have ever had, and an outing that was supposed to be an evening of relaxation ended up very stressful ..Some of our party had recommended the restaurant, but now none of us will return. The cook had to have known the fish was WAY over cooked but probably thought that we may have excepted it. Shaelyn, you were wonderful and I am saddened that you had to experience this. A friend and I went to the Galley in Portland last week for lunch.. It was a very hot day so we opted to sit inside in the air conditioning. We were seated at a table so we could eadlsily see the water and boats coming in and going out. The view was lovely. Our waitress came an we ordered our meal of fish and chips. The serving size was big. We had home cut fries. Halbut, coleslaw and gravy. We just had water with lemon to drink . We could not eat dessert but it looked really good. The price of the meal was good as the serving size was big. We are planning to return very soon with more friends. It.was a lovely afternoon. Beautiful area and a gorgeous lake view. If you are looking for a nice, relaxing outing, Portland on Hwy 15 and the Galley restaurant should be on your list. It is located at Lens Cove Marina. Very lovely, relaxing outing for sure.
