Grace Cafe — Restaurant in Rural Municipality of East St. Paul

We have been here before and enjoyed the food and service. However, not today. Our coffee (from 2 different pots) was not good. Mine was quite bitter and my husbands was like dish water. When we returned them, saying "this coffee is bad" (and going to ask for another cup) we were interrupted by the server who chastised us saying "you shouldn't say it's bad. Other people like it. Say you don't like it but don't say it's bad". We certainly did not appreciate being chastised by a 20 sometime young girl. More respect should be given to your elders who are your customers. We decided to cancel our order and leave. As we were leaving we overheard her telling a colleague we were leaving because of the coffee. My husband stopped to clarify we were leaving because of the rude service, NOT because of the coffee. She then condescendingly said "have a nice day". Tried to speak to manager but she's not in today. Unfortunately this rude young lady lost business Today and in the future. Customer service training is necessary...

Ordered a salad with dressing on the side for medical reasons. It came on the salad. When I walked to the servers and very politely informed them, the senior server rolled her eyes. I said I would pick the chicken off - no sense in wasting it and making more. Once the chicken was picked off I said that “my husband (at home) would be happy to eat the dressed salad, if it’s just going to waste.” At that moment the senior server said “well I will see if any staff want it.” Gross - I just picked all the chicken off with my fingers and you’re offering it to staff? Doesn’t seem like that’s a sanitary thing to do. What other unsanitary procedures are...

Overall a reasonably priced homestyle meal. The decor is a little dark, and needs an update. I had the Craisin, Feta, & Toasted Almond salad. I added added chicken. The salad was tasty, but the few almonds I could find were not toasted. The chicken seemed to a pre- cooked chicken strip with no color or much taste. It would be nice if a real grilled chicken breast was used to layer in more flavor. Service was OK , staff were pleasant, but difficult to get coffee refills , and did not do check ins- I.e. ask how the food was , or if we needed anything.
