Restaurant La Focaccia — Restaurant in Saint-Jérôme

15 minutes before closing time, on our way out, after making our payment, the waitress - Valerie - asked us if the service was good. We said yes, absolutely. My partner asked if there was a problem & she actually complained to our faces about the tip. It wasn't 15%, but it was decent. There were even a few issues like:

1. Upon making reservations we asked to have a booth, when we got there we were given a tiny table for two. One of the round booths became available 5 minutes later, we had to ask to switch seats. When we did, we had no help from our waitress to move our stuff (wine, water glasses, olives, ect.)

2. Before going we looked at the menu on their website, I had picked something out that I wanted to order - the Macaroni & Cheese with Scallops and Bacon. Once we got there, this one meal was not available so I had to choose something else. If you have a website, you need to keep it updated.

What bothered us the MOST was that it was evident that she was trying to profit from a slow night. They are open from 5pm-10pm, we were there from 8:00pm-9:45pm and there were maybe 4 other couples that we saw eating, so it wasn't busy, which means low tips. This is NO WAY to treat customers. It was a total buzz kill. We will call the Manager to confirm what this waitress told us: that she is obliged - by management - to pay the difference out of her pocket if she didn't receive a minimum of 15% after each shift. Anything less than 15% = bad service; that's ridiculous & everyone knows that's not necessarily true.

Other than this, the food was fantastic, but unfortunately we likely will not...

While the restaurant's ambience was sophisticated modern chic, their approach to the menu was decidedly old-school. Their selection of Italian standards was well done, with each dish tasting exactly as you would expect them to; there was no hint of a desire to "reinvent" puttanesca sauce or put some signature "twist" on spaghetti.

The service was excellent, friendly, but professional. The plating was garnished just enough to offer visual appeal without being florid or excessive. The only caveat I have to offer is that this is not a place to look for novelty and wild creativity; La Focaccia is clearly focused on classic dishes in...

Do not judge a book by it's cover. The exterior of the building is deceiving. Step inside this lovely restaurant and you will immediately sense the wonderful ambience of the the many dining areas, truly surprising, spacious and cozy at the same time.
