Bistro du Hangar — Restaurant in Saint-Jean-de-l'Île-d'Orléans

This spot was the only place open for lunch on the island during the season we went. We stopped at three other spots that were closed for the season even though Google reported them being open. For what it was, it is a solid choice for pub-like food. My wife got the house special poutine which didn't really work in terms of toppings and I got the chicken fingers which I haven't had since I was in grade school but it was made perfectly. I learned recently the difference between tenders and fingers and this was made correctly based on that difference. Finger meat for chicken, was soft and juicy and breaded very well. There is nothing too special with the food selection, variety is decent and despite being heavily understaffed, they took care of every patron very well. A bit underwhelming. Portions were big enough, but they were mostly fries. The food was ok, nothing memorable, especially considering the price and the reviews. Only coleslaw offered as a side (a green salad or veggies alternative would have been nice). There was no local beer on tap or canned/bottled options. Sorry, but I can have my generic lager with my meal elsewhere, when in Quebec I want to enjoy the huge variety of local drinks. This was our first and first meal on the island, we were a little shy also because of only knowing english in a french speaking city but we were welcomed and serviced by such a warm beautiful young lady - Annabelle, that it left us with lifetime good memories. She even custom made a iced coffee for me which is actually not served on their menu and won my heart. The food in itself was fresh and tasty- we ordered a garden pizza and their special poutine.
