At first, the place showed great promises being so packed. As we got in, everything seemed fine but then the service started to go downhill once we sat down.
The waitress yanked the tablet out of my wife’s hands to “explain” how the sushi ordering work, despite the fact that we already were ordering. We had some initial, no ice tap water served to us and waited 45 minutes to get more. Once the food started coming, some of the stuff was good (sashimi, nigiri, soup, salad) and seemed fresh but the tempura was all mushy and felt like it was reheated in the microwave. The calamari tasted like it was a week old and the Szechuan shrimps tasted like a mix of ketchup and sriracha sauce. Everything that has “spicy” on it was literally drenched in spicy mayo to the point of not tasting anything else.
The speed of delivery for the food was pretty fast but I suspect that a reason for that is that they reheat their food in the microwave and serve it to us, or at least that’s what it felt like.
There were mistakes in my order but that’s almost unavoidable in sushi places anyway. Positive point of the story? We were out quickly since the food was served fast but we didn’t even want to eat dessert out of fear that they would ruin that experience too. It’s a bring your own wine and at the end of the meal, my wife and I understood why... We both needed a drink after that experience.
I will most likely not eat there again and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone that love sushi.
edit After this response from sushi Hoshi, I would précise that fast service that is bad and impolite is not a POSITIVE experience and that if their food isn’t microwaved then they need to hire cooks that know how to make tempura better because mushy, oil soaked tempura that is cold to the touch and blend to the taste isn’t the way to serve tempura. You deserve that one star because it’s the first time that I tell myself that I wouldn’t go back to a restaurant in my 35 years of life and your response only confirm...
Read moreThe food was adequate and our waitress was quite friendly. That’s about the only good thing I can say. The place isn’t very clean, we found bottles and papers under our table. And that could have perhaps been overlooked if the manager hadn’t been so incredibly rude. We called to make a reservation for a large group and when we arrived we were seated separately, one table behind the other. We asked the waitress if there was anything they could do so we could be seated together as this was a Mother’s Day Supper and when the manager came to see us he essentially berated us, stating that “no one had ever had an issue with this arrangement” and that “according to him we were seated together” and that next time we should specify we want to be seated side by side. We were quite polite when we asked to be accommodated and simply said “alright” when he said there was nothing he could do, so I don’t understand the necessity to stand there and essentially tell us “deal with it or leave”. Because even after we said it was fine, he continued to stand there and argue why WE were in the wrong and how we should have been more clear on the phone that when we said we were dining as group, we meant a singular group. So heads up, if you’re going to make a reservation for a group, make sure to state the obvious and clarify that you want to...
Read moreI ate there once and will never do it again. You come in and you think you're in a bar. If you want to talk to each other while you are at your table, then you should look for another place. you can hardly understand each other. But this probably depends on the day and time. Let's get to the food: all in all, our dishes were okay, but if you're really hungry, you should go somewhere else. Sure, it's a buffet and you can always order something, but I wouldn't see 2 chicken wings on a small plate as a whole dish. Coming to the service: as mentioned above, it was my first and last experience in this restaurant. While I was eating over my plate, my plate was taken away from me by a waitress. Respect was not in her vocabulary that evening. I'm not saying all the workers there are bad or disrespectful, but you shouldn't have to experience that as a guest. Many thanks to Alex, who treated us with respect and answered all our questions that evening. If you want to go out for good sushi where you can socialize while having a conversation in the evening, I would advise you to eat...
