We stopped at Rick's fish and chips while on vacation in PEI. After seeing Rick's on "you gotta eat here" we made a point of going despite some recent bad reviews .. Well let me say save your money! Out of our 2 weeks on the east coast this was by far the WORST food and experience we had, save your money !!! For starters there is minimal parking, no big deal though.. So you place your order from this little shack, there was 6 people in our group, we had minimal food as it was to hold us over until dinner, 3 kids and 3 adults, we paid $3.75 for a tiny paper cup of lemonade x 4, save your money and drink the free lemon water ! So then you sit and wait for your food... but they don't even serve it to you!! After 35 minutes we got cold French fries, gross coleslaw and the fish was soggy inside and burnt outside!!! 2 of my daughters got the hotdog that was wrapped in bread.. not impressed for $150, some fries , only 1 fish dinner and fries.. Online it showed them having at least some shrimp, well we were informed that they DO NOT have shrimp AND in fact they have recently removed items from the menu.. so after all the wait, in the hot sun, the food was terrible, we were all upset and it ruined our day. The fish made me sick AND to top it all off they expect you to clear the dishes, condiments and garbage yourself !!! What the heck are you paying for even ?!?!?!? We feel like they are far from the time that this place was on "you gotta eat here " total waste of money, and we don't mind paying for food that is good, but when you pay 150 for some fries and 2 pieces of fish and some lackluster lemonade, NOT IMPRESSED at all, go to the Black and White Cafe around the corner Instead. We saw plates from all over, we are from Ontario , go elsewhere to avoid disappointment . Oh and they don't take cash ? We put thousands of kms on this vacation and by far the biggest let down was Rick's fish and chips, who doesn't take cash money in this...
Read moreHUGE disappointment! The service - what little there was of it - was deplorable, which was so surprising on this island known for its friendly people. I stood for 10+ minutes at the order counter with three waitstaffers passing & ignoring me, & finally had to step in front of one to get acknowledged. My sister went in separately & had the same experience. Still, we were polite and hopeful that the experience would improve. The waitress, though, was particularly surly and miserable and made us feel like we were nuisances, not patrons. (Unfortunately, my sister gave her a generous tip when she paid for our food before trying it.) Only a cook who handed over my chowder at the pick-up window was nice. We had to wait forever for our food, which was mostly terrible. The fried fish was the only bright spot - very good, but served with cold fries and a tiny blob of slaw-mush. The grilled-shrimp platter arrived with just 6 small undercooked shrimp (nearly raw) that had not a hint of seasoning on them, and truly tasteless, cold mashed potatoes. More diners arrived and the place got busier, so it was pointless to try to track down anyone to complain to. I would drive 5-10 mins down the road & pick up a gas-station sandwich before I would ever consider going back there. Rick’s definitely left a bad taste...
Read moreSo, I've always loved Rick's I go at least once a summer if not a couple times. We went for the first time this year on Saturday. I was so unbelievably disappointed. I got the lobster roll, as always, my partner got the clam strips. It was a decent amount of money spent. When we got our food after kind of long wait, it seems they were experiencing some technical difficulties, and some kitchen issues, happens to everyone. My lobster roll was just not good. The seasoning was bad, the lobster didn't taste as fresh as it used to, tasted like maybe there was some pickles in it now, it was very wet but not flavourful. The portion size is significantly smaller. I was supposed to have fried and coleslaw with mine, I didn't get the coleslaw and my fries were inedible. We were there at about 1pm so an hour after they opened and honestly the fries tasted like they were from the previous day and there were so few. The clam strips were tough, chewy, and tasted like deep fryer grease. There was maybe 10 in the box for $16.50, no fries, no coleslaw just the strips for that price, and these were not whole clam strips. We left disappointed and I don't think I'll be making my summer trips to...
