New owners. I was a regular for the ambassador fry shack before it had closed. My wife and I were very excited to see they were reopening. We call every year to see if they were going to open. Robin (the old owner) had closed down during Covid since he couldnât get the quality ingredients that he wanted. I guess he sold the whole place shortly after.
Unfortunately with new owners itâs not the same. The poutine has a generic gravy and cheese curds while the original was a good gravy and shredded mozzarella which made a huge difference. Out of all the fry shacks and places that sell poutine we would only go to the Ambassador. The burgers, hot dogs, chicken burgers were always good you could get anything on the menu and it was great. The new menu has no meat but a soy burger. I understand wanting to do something different as a new owner but if it ainât broke donât fix it. Or at least change the name of the fry shack so people know itâs different. My wife and I still gave it a shot but were very disappointed. I ordered 2 poutines and a fry which I didnât receive. We were given a complimentary dessert which I believe was the Gulab Jamun. The best way I can describe it to someone, itâs like a timbit that has been soaked in a watery sugar syrup. I wasnât a fan but the worker was friendly and it was an appreciated gesture.
With Jacks being sold and ambassador being new owners the trading post looks like the...
Read moreWere travelling up north craving poutine - checked Google and decided to go here after seeing the 4.9 stars and that they open at 11:30am. Arrived at 11:40 and saw the closed sign up, assumed they were in the process of opening. Sat in the parking lot for 2 minutes when a man (the owner?) came up and said "can I help you?" (way he asked made it seem like we were trespassers on his property - kind of off putting) I rolled my window down and said we were wondering if the place is open, he said "no we're not. We're never open on labor Day. We're closed." Very dismissive. I said okay and we drove off. This was today, September 10th. Labor Day is September 6th. Maybe he mixed up his dates...? An unpleasant experience that could have been more welcoming had he been...
Read moreWe had a fabulous experience at this little vegetarian chip wagon (and motel, by chance!). The staff were very kind and friendly, and the food was really good. As a vegetarian, eating meals on road trips can sometimes feel like a chore. The paneer burger was delightful - the ingredients and the bun! The fries were perfect chip truck fries. There was a nice, shaded seating area to eat our food once it arrived. We also ran into the owner (?) of the tidy motel next door who was also very kind and friendly. If you need some lunch or supper on your way through town, I highly recommend...
