HENLEY HOUSE- SHEET HARBOUR: Well worth a visit
The Henley House, open Thurs-Sunday, seasonally, is a superb pub and restaurant, offering good beer and wonderful, friendly service. They have a full menu, featuring snacks and meals- and even a traditional British cream tea- with homemade Welsh cakes!
There is a television in the bar area, and another massive screen in the sports room. When we visited during the day, Meryl, the owner, was more than happy to change the channel so that we could watch the World Cup.
The pub quiz on Thursday nights is very well-attended by locals and Come-from-Aways alike, including teachers from the local high school, and miners from the local Gold Mine. If you are a visitor, just show up at about 7:30, pay $2, and ask to join a table. The quiz starts at 8pm. When we visited, we were welcomed warmly. I ordered the delicious loaded potato wedges to nibble during the quiz. They were served fresh, hot- and were enough for two to share.
The formal dining area, overlooking the water, offers a more refined experience (white tablecloths and candles).
There are high chairs available for children and a ramp for wheelchair or stroller access. The toilets are big, clean and easily accessible.
If you are visiting the Eastern Shore, make sure you stop in at the Henley House. You will be...
Read moreNine of us on a car run ate here on July 21st. I had never been to Sheet Harbour, or this restaurant. We had reservations. We were seated on the rear deck under umbrellas. Great seats and a beautiful view.
I believe our waitresses name was Chassity and she was excellent. Very attentive and pleasant, without being overbearing. Our orders were quickly taken, and our drinks arrived shortly after. The owner, a very pleasant lady, came out and introduced herself to the group and thanked us for coming, which was much appreciated.
They brought the table home made tea biscuits and whipped butter before the meal, and they were incredible - melted in your mouth.
The restaurant was very busy, but our food arrived relatively quickly, and was hot and tasty, with good size portions. I had the chicken club with fries, my wife had the chicken sandwich with fries. All was delicious, with special mention to the focaccia buns which were excellent. Others at the table had fish chowder, which they said had a lot of fish in it. The others had a variety of dishes, and we were all very happy with the food and service.
We will definitely be back, just for the food and to...
Read moreVisited again here in 2023. Amazing friendly service just like last time. We ordered the fish and chips (large portion) and the seafood linguine. The seafood linguine was very different from our last visit (see pics). This time the scallops were tiny and the shrimp were tough. There was also a different sauce on the pasta (tomato based vs cream based). The cheesecake with caramel sauce was out of this world. I would go back just for that!
2021- Service was fantastic and food was very tasty. We had the onion rings with a sweet curry dip to start - amazing - probably the best onion rings we’ve ever had. The complimentary house biscuits with beer butter were melt in your mouth delicious. We also ordered some Sober Island beer - blueberry express and marigold blonde ale. Both were very good. For entrees we ordered the seafood linguine and the special of lobster cakes with salad and vegetables. Dessert was a jalapeño blueberry cheesecake and a warm brownie with ice cream. Our server Zoey was exceptionally friendly and provided superior service. We will definitely return to the Henley House. Thanks for a...
