Syrens Bistro — Restaurant in Southern Gulf Islands Electoral Area

It's very rare that I take the time to leave a review. It either has to be VERY good or VERY bad. This one star is for the very sweet waitress who was workin' her tail off on a busy night and for the ameretto sour that my wife said was decent. I really wanted to believe this restaurant would take their 2 star rating and work to improve it - and I do understand that it is an Island AND covid- so options for getting quality food may be an issue... but we had the squash soup (way too much curry, couldn't taste the squash), chicken tacos (bland, dry chicken - needs a sauce or something and $18?!), the fish and chips were okay (fries weren't fresh cut or anything - same as Costco food court) and the wings were average. We foolishly got Lava Cake for dessert which tasted like freezer burn and had no lava inside - but with the heaping whip cream, you almost couldn't tell. I almost feel bad for my honesty, but the resort is so nice so far, so I just really hope that the restaurant can work to improve.... I literally am writing this 5 minutes after paying the bill because I can't believe what we sat through. We watchd two tables beside us return food that they said "wasn't good". Such a shame. My wife was a trooper and ate most of it...

Do not rely on the reservation system at this establishment and frankly, do not spend your money here.

We booked a table of 16 for a bachelorette party dinner on the long weekend one month prior. Apparently the person who took our reso was "unqualified" to do so and didn't input it into the system. Mistakes happen, which we are understanding of. However, rather than come up with a solution to the problem, the manager refused to come out and let the servers take the blame - some of which were shaking with anxiety due to the collosal mess up and acting unprofessionally towards our group.

It was clear management did not take the issue seriously and did not want to compensate us in any way. Based on the looks and snickers from other patrons as we arrived, it was obvious that we are not the "typical crowd" at this establishment and we feel that this is part of the reason why we weren't treated professionally. Came here on a quiet Saturday afternoon with the girlfriend, 3 tables total including ours. Ordered the Poke Nachos, but was given the Poets Nachos, very similar sounding names, server probably heard us wrong. We waited 20 minutes for the food, we were hungry, and we didn't want to cause trouble for the server and waste food, it was only a $2 difference, so we kept the wrong Nachos. Taste was okay, but it was way too much for two people. Cheese was only on the top and solidified all the tortilla chips into one large mass. It was very difficult to break apart and eat. We ended up eating only 1/3 and took the rest to go. Girlfriend also had a red wine cocktail which tasted odd.

Service was slow, and server could have given us a warning about the size of the dish, or confirm our order at the very least. She walked away fairly quickly after we paid, not even a thanks.

We regretted traveling from the other end of the island for this meal. Trust the low review ratings. There are far better options on...
