Understaffed, Received a pitcher of water that was YELLOW and tasted/smelled fishy. Decided to order the House Specialty at 6pm(ish) on a Thursday, they ran out of Blue Curacao and offered to make a different drink with iceberg ice. We accepted. I tasted the drink and it was super delicious. 5 minutes later I asked for the same drink as my partner and was advised there was no more iceberg ice. Offered to make it with regular ice.
We ordered. My partner has the moose spring rolls. They were good, a bit peppery for our taste but good. Main dish was cod au gratin. Cod was flaked instead of being in 1 piece, but it tasted good. I selected calamari as a starter and the salmon as a main, was told that they ran out of salmon, so I defaulted to the seafood linguini which I was assured was a great choice. When it arrived, calamari was clearly cooked from frozen, from a bag. it was very underwhelming. Bechamel sauce for the linguini did not taste like much, with 2 pieces of shrimp and 1 scallop. For dessert, I ordered the blueberry crumble with custard. Waitress came out 5 mins later to let me know that there is no more custard, offered to sub it with vanilla ice cream.
All in all, food was ok, nothing to be blown away by. The restaurant has so much potential with all of the lovely seafood at it's doorstep, but there is little care to ensure that the ingredients shine as they should in such a...
Read moreThe Lightkeepers Cafe, nestled in the former residence of the Fishing Point Lighthouse keeper, offers a truly unique dining experience. Its panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, coupled with the rich history of the building, create an unforgettable atmosphere.
We were captivated by the cafe's charm and the friendly service. The menu boasts a delicious array of Newfoundland classics, and we were particularly impressed by the fish cakes, often hailed as the best in Atlantic Canada. The fresh seafood, sourced locally, was undeniably the star of the show.
Beyond the culinary delights, the cafe offers a fantastic vantage point for whale watching and iceberg spotting. The restaurant provides binoculars near the windows so you can dine and view. With binoculars in hand, we spent a delightful afternoon enjoying the scenery and indulging in delicious food. The cafe's outdoor seating area is the perfect spot to relax and soak up the sun.
While we didn't bring our furry friend on this occasion, the cafe is dog-friendly, making it a welcoming spot for those traveling with pets.
A visit to the Lightkeepers Cafe is more than just a meal; it's an experience that encapsulates the essence of Newfoundland. The combination of history, delicious food, and breathtaking views makes it a must-visit destination for any traveler...
Read moreVery strange lunch. The reviews were so great and we were excited for a healthy, home cooked, local food. But my husbandâs lunch never did come. I was slowwwwly eating mine and after a half hour, we asked about his order, and it was clear it had been forgotten (we were told they were âall backed upâ but there was never more than one other couple in the restaurant eating.) We finally just asked for it to go and my husband ate half my sandwich. Unfortunately, what came in the to-go box had no magic⌠two plain fish cakes, and a small container of baked beans, for $18.00. Sandwich was ok. Probably not the usual experience folks have. The...
