Tried a large poutine and a large salad. Personally my poutine didn't even had a child handful of cheese. You really had to find the little few "crumble" of cheese. I would definitely not call that cheese curds. Sauce tasted very burned not smokey but burnt like a black toast. Fries were good. Salad had the onions missing, and was just iceberg letuce and 4 slice of cucumbers and 4 slice of tomatos but it was fresh. Like others have mentions just know that lots of things are just store bought you can see the boxes behind the restaurants. Menue is basic; No special recipes or homade specialties or special spices/seasonings unfortunately. The location is pretty and the restaurant has a cool vibe inside, you get serve fast. I would get just fries and only if I'm passing by next time. Otherwise I'd choose an other better tasting fast food. I personally think that the good reviews comes from the fact that it's hard to go wrong with fried and greasy stuff, prices are cheap and restaurant looks cool with nice outdoor...
Read moreI got the dill pickle fries, and it did not disappoint. The fries were crispy enough to hold up to the toppings, and the flavour was everything that could be desired when ordering an item with that name. I would say there was a bit too much ranch for me, but realistically, the large was just way too much food for one person unless you're on a very high calorie intake diet.
The service was prompt and friendly, couldn't ask for better. Most of the staff are pretty young, too, so it's great to see everything running as smoothly as it was with a steady stream of customers during my visit.
I gave the atmosphere 4 stars because all the seating is either outdoor or open, and it is located on a very busy street, so the noise level can get pretty bad depending on traffic. It is also picnic table seating, which may not be suitable for people with bad knees, etc.
Overall, I'd say MJ's is a hidden gem that is definitely worth a visit, and even more...
Read moreToday I am really sad because I visited MJ's, my favourite guilty pleasure, for the very last time.
I always get takeout. It is always put into a bag. Not today, though. Instead it was placed on the counter in a too-small clamshell container with a lot of the fries and chicken fingers sticking out the sides, no bag. Then another customer who was rudely blocking the counter like she was the only person waiting for food picked it up with both hands, assuming it was hers, clearly touching about 1/3 of my food. The staff corrected her but did not offer me replacement food.
I was too shocked to even argue, and I was so grossed out! I had no idea what to even do. So I just threw out my meal and left. I guess I shouldn't be eating here anyways, because if a stranger having hands all over another customers food doesn't faze the staff in the slightest it makes me really wonder. I am pretty bummed about the...
