The food had potential to be great, but if you're going as a group, don't expect good food. We booked ahead because we were a large party. We got our table right away, but we only had one server and he was drowning. A nice fella, but wait times were atrocious. We ended up having to readjust the table and get two more seats because they didn't count right. That's fine, but shouldn't happen. We were sat for almost a half hour before the food orders started coming through, and he was left by himself. We asked for another server and she told us no. By the time the orders were taken, it was over a half hour in the restaurant and he still had to enter them all by himself. When we finally got appetizers we'd waited over an hour. They were hot and delicious, even if most were smaller than expected. Another forty five minutes passed before we got mains, and again, no help for our server, so he ended up having to bring them all over two at a time, and by the time we were all served it was underwhelming. Most food wasn't cold, but none of it was hot, my poutine had all the hallmarks of takeout that'd been delivered, not what was served in a restaurant "fresh" and it's really a shame because it could've been a delicious meal if it was served quicker than it was. One of our table had a Caeser that was pretty much dry, and another had chicken that was closer to cold than warm. I feel like this could've been solved by having a second or third server at least help pass out the food, but instead they all just hung out on the other side of the bar, with the exception of one of them who handed out a couple of the dishes near the end.
If you're going with one or two others and you've got time to wait and don't mind very loud live music, I'm sure it's a nice place but don't go here if you've got even a middle sized party, as we watched a table of 4 wait almost an hour before getting...
Read moreMy husband and I came here our first night in St. John’s on our honeymoon. The building is beautiful, has a lot of character; as soon as my husband saw it we had to come in for drinks (we’d already had dinner up the street). I don’t know if the staff were maybe having a bad night or something (came around 6 PM Labour Day Monday), but we were truly made to feel as though our business wasn’t wanted. We were asked if we wanted menus, we didn’t know these would only be for food (not drinks / cocktails). I apologized and clarified that we just wanted drinks when the server came back + asked for a drink menu instead, she scoffed at me and said that wasn’t available. My husband then asked about a craft beer on tap, to which the sever responded “it’s a beer.” We ended up eventually coming up with a drink each to order, she got them, then shortly came back and told us what we owed her. We’d barely taken a few sips. I am sure based on other reviews that experiences like ours aren’t commonplace here (and I’m sure it’s an amazing space when there’s a band / etc.), but this experience put a real damper on...
Read moreThe worst food experience during two weeks. The place wasn't busy, we were offered to sit where we want to. Appetizers came about 40 minutes after we placed the order and show begun: cod tongue was absolutely rubberized, like if you boil old frozen calamari rings very long time fish cake had anything, but fish inside. It looked like 2 scoops of mashed potato with very light hint of fish Finally came moose burger and it was the last drop. In short - just piece of charcoal that I returned to kitchen. Oh, one more thing: if you never drunk rum in restaurant from 1 oz plastic shots apperently from dollarama - come here. I put 2 stars only because soup and chicken were acceptable. Think twice before you decide to spend your money in such expensive place like this that has so poor quality of...
