Ches's Famous Fish & Chips — Restaurant in St. John's

We called on Thursday night for A pre order to pick up on Good Friday.

The young man on the phone declined and told us to call at 9 AM the following morning. The lines were busy well before that, and so (as per their Facebook Page) I went down to place my order directly. Myself and three others stood around trying to get into the restaurant.

Eventually the manager (unlikely) came out and advised we cant come in and can only order via the phone. I advised no one is answering and then it asked for a code when I tried to get through on the phone - also advised that it's ringing through busy and asked if someone would answer inside if I tried with her standing infront of me.

Another customer advised he could see people inside walking around on their cellphones. The employee outside threw her hands up and went back inside. My self and the other customer who remained both explained how poorly this reflects on the business when they have employees and social medial contradicting what an employee at the store says.

Needless to say this caused various issues and had to go elsewhere which cost a lot more than it should have.

TL;DR - make sure the left hand knows what the right is doing, be consistent with your messaging before you turn people away - especially...

Ordered small FDG...it was a bowl of mush! Like leftover chips literally stirred together with dressing and gravy..there was do much gravy it was like FDG stew! Besides that we waited over half an hour and watched 2 other tables that came in after us get served. I had to flag down the watress and remind her we were there before these other tables. We are hard core ches's customers from freshwater Rd where it's always amazing! Will never go back tgeet again. I actually told the lady at the register about the FDG soup..she took it off our bill ..most of it was still in the bowl or plate...sorry guys a real bad experience...my husband's fish and chips was very greasy and didn't seam fresh...to us it seemed they forgot about us and just grabbed whatever ,...maybe left over food and threw it carelessly on the plates, wish I had to of...

It wasn't busy at all when we arrived. One other table and us to be exact and we still ended up waiting to order because a staff conversation seemed to be more pressing! Once we ordered the 2pc fish and chips, 1 PC fish and chips and the 3 PC chicken and chips, it took 20 minutes for the chicken to be freshly cooked! It smelled and tasted great. My Aunt required some hot water in her tea pot so again that staff huddle was an issue.. I kept looking towards them until finally the cook came from the kitchen and noticed my glance. The waiter came and went but never brought our bill, we had and to chase him for that. The food was 4/5, service 3/5. ...
