You know what you're getting when you come to Jack's - there's locations all over the place. Food is good - typical pub fare with a twist, good drink selection. Not particularly inspiring - but let's face it that's not why you go to this restaurant. You go to get a consistent and good experience, which it delivers on. The big difference with THIS Jack's is that it has a beautiful harbour view - only a small handful of restaurants have this particular view and this close to the harbour in St. John's and this is one of them. I had the hot chicken sandwich - I loved it! The chicken was crispy on the outside but very very moist and tender on the inside - that's the key to fried chicken and they nailed it. Good portion size. I also drank some of the local beer while here. A great experience if Jack's is what you're looking for. If you're looking for the authentic local experience, or course go elsewhere there's plenty of nearby options.

Updating my review: I want to say thank you for the feedback from the manager. It is the first time I have received an apology from a restaurant. I agree that everyone can make mistakes, and I will be happy to give this restaurant a second chance. “I ordered meals for pickup, and everything was good until I opened the pasta with chicken. The chicken was overcooked and black. I’ve attached a photo. I don’t have time to come back since I was already far away when I opened it. I don’t understand why restaurants give customers meals with visibly burnt chicken. Of course, it will taste bad. I understand if something is wrong that isn’t immediately visible, but here the chicken is black, and the restaurant thinks it’s normal to serve this to clients. It was very disrespectful.”

Not sure if this is a chain restaurant, but it did have that feel. Husband and I had been walking around a lot that day and wanted to just sit and have a bit to eat. This place is really beautiful inside, kind of industrial chic with big windows looking out at the boats docked in the harbor. Tables have brown kraft paper on them with a small sampling of crayons. Even as adults we had fun with this while waiting for our food. We split the calamari appetizer which was very yummy. Then I had a chicken curry rice bowl. I wasn't expecting to be blown away, but damn it was nice! I really enjoyed it. Husband had a burger which he said was really good. I ordered a glass of wine which was a generous pour. Our server was super peppy and fun. Overall quite enjoyable.

Went there last night, Aug 10, with a group of 8 people for drinks. We were seated at an "8 person table". We explained we expected 2 more friends and the server replied "well this table seats 8". We all ordered drinks aftershock our server told us 14 minutes to last call. She brought our drinks and left. We were not watching the time but expected a bell or server to inform is it was now last call. She came to out table 2 minutes too late for last call. We explained we were expecting her to return to see if we wanted a last drink. She told us it was too late.....2 minutes too late. No big deal, a but off putting tho. But the time we spent there we felt rushed. I watched the server just reaching in abruptly between us and grabbing glasses with no communication. She grabbed my wife almost empty glass without asking her while she was chatting with a friend sitting next to her. She turned around and said where's my drink. She didn't complain but someone else in our group saw it all and let the server know what happened. A few minutes later the server, again without words returned and pretty much reached in between my wife and the person sitting next to her and slammed a drink in the concrete slab table and walked away. We were all surprised she didn't break the glass. Now we had a meal their before that. Most everyone enjoyed their food although my burger was sickly at best. But the lack of attention to our table was noticeable. Most of us had water but the server never once asked if we wanted more. When I asked for more we expected he would return with a jug but only one glass for me. This message to trainers of these servers more than the servers. Train your servers to be polite, attentative and provide a little friendly chit chat. Very cold unwelcoming atmosphere. And I will add the place was...

Visited today for an early dinner. Music is way too loud for early evening dining. Nightclub style at nightclub volumes just not appropriate for 5pm! Drinks were very ‘meh’. Def over-priced, we couldn’t tell if they were boozy or virgin, but we certainly paid as though they were boozy! Daiquiri served in a small juice glass, no garnish. Fishbowl drink was gigantic but mostly ice cubes. Nachos were great. Fries were plain with no attempt at making them look anything less than warmed up frozen bag-fries. Wings were good. Dessert was way overpriced. A chocolate chip cookie microwaved to make it feel ‘fresh’’. Extra $$ for a scoop of ice cream, which our server recommended. The dessert took 30 minutes! Our server apologized after 20 minutes; full disclosure…our cookie was dropped on the floor and she could not serve that one ( thanks!) but the scoop of ice cream must’ve waited all that time as it was half liquid when the replacement cookie finally got to our table. I expected it to be comped due to the wait and the melted ice cream but it was not. After serving the very troubled dessert, our server became incredibly anxious to complete the service and asked on 3 occasions over about 15 minutes if we were done with the plate (we weren’t). Then, she offered coffee/tea. She never offered seconds of drinks or offered the drink menu again. Our bill was well over $100. We did leave a tip- our server appeared to work hard for her pay but seemed anxious to get rid of us once her work was done, she could have apologized for the screw up with dessert. Overall, not the evening out I’d hoped for. Won’t be rushing back. Disappointing for Saturday evening, peak tourist season, in the heart...

My family and I went to Jack Astor's on Thursday, February 26th at around 5:30 p.m. of 2015. Upon arriving, we were promptly seated. We were given only adult menus. We waited for about 5 min before I was able to ask for kids menus. The waiter then brought us take out menus. I'm assuming that since they are geared towards families, they might have actual kids menus. We then waited another 15 min. before we were able to actually place our order. When placing our order, I asked for steamed veggies for my 9 month old. I asked that they were not seasoned with anything. When our food arrived, the veggies were not served. Since our waiter did not bring out the food, I had to wait for him to come back to us to ask for the veggies. My husband and other two children had already finished their meals by the time he arrived. I asked for the veggies and at this point my baby was screaming. He went to the back and was gone for about 5 min. At this point, I am realizing that they have forgotten the order. When he comes out, the veggies are hard and basically raw, carrots and broccoli. I am then told that they are unable to make the veggies soft because they weren't able to pan fry them in butter. I tell him to box up my food, which I wasn't able to eat, and we don't want the raw veggies because the baby can't eat them. He then gets a manager involved, who tries to get us to take the veggies with us. I explain to her as I did the waiter, that my baby can't eat raw veggies. We were then CHARGED for the veggies, even though we didn't take them!!!! We will not be...
