Mama Africa Restaurant — Restaurant in St. John's

Staff very friendly and store very clean with lots of food varieties Our first experience with eating Mama's food we ordered the Yassa (Chicken Dinner) and Thiebon Dienne (Fish Dinner) and Mafe (Peanut Butter Beef Dinner). The Yassa was our favorite, delicious taste and flavours, but would like to see more chicken and veggie options added. The Thiebon Dienne was also deliciuous with unique flavours, but again just rice and fish, would like to see a sauce and veggie choices added. Finally the Mafe didn't particularly like, over powered with peanut butter, was just a sauce with rice with 1 small piece of over cooked beef, no veggies. Would like to see more beef and choices of veggie's added to this one. Love the food here and it's so underpriced. The beef mafe is world class, nothing like it in St John's. The marinated chicken in their dishes is crazy. They serve fresh Baobab Juice and I'm telling you, for a hangover, nothing beats it. It's a miracle cure. They also have the best price in town for Jarritos soda. The owner is very excited to explain any questions you have about his products. They've got a huge selection of spices, skin and haircare, cold drinks, and grocery items on top of their amazing food. I bought a pack of orange blossom soap and now I smell like a king.

Also, the food they serve is halal. When you go, you have to try the hot pepper sauce that the owner prepares himself. It's almost like a salsa and you will be addicted...

Tried Mama Africa with my parents today. It was overall the best dining experience we've collectively had in a long time. The lady at who served us was wonderful. She took the time to go through each menu item, how it's made, where it originates.
