I Love Memorial Café! It's a new café and the owner is working to really atmosphere it up. I love the hand painted pictures and flower vines on the walls. The chairs at the tables are so comfy to sit on. Lots of window light in the back and front seating of the café. They put a new windowed door in the front and it really changes the dark mood when other owners ran it. They have included a cozy couch and arm chairs. This space has had many inceptions and this is the coziest I've seen it. The prices are very reasonable and the food is great. There is a good variety on the menu and the icy drinks made with real fruits are so flavourable ! I love the breakfast (all Day!!) and the Pesto and Teriyaki Sandwiches! NUM NUM NUM. The owner and staff are very friendly. I commend the owner for opening this small, locally-owned business. It's a great go-to for great food, seating, conversation for sure. It's my favourite...

I have been to Café’s all across Canada from Vancouver to St. John’s and I can say without a single doubt of my mind that Madras Cafe is easily up there with one of the best cafe’s I have been to. This is definitely not the fanciest, nor the most excellently decorated, nor has it perfect ambiance. But it doesn’t need those things. It has perfected its purpose. This cafe has perfected the quality of food & drink provided both in flavour and in presentation so much so that not even Gordon Ramsay could create a negative point. You are greeted with what seems to be a staff that is in a heated competition with each other to see who can provide the best service. As soon as you walk in you are subjected to a smile so big from the owner that you could swear his grandson was standing right behind you. Keep in mind that I say this during the COVID-19...

I do not like leaving lower reviews but it is my hope that by sharing this, it’ll show management that some changes need to take place.

The quality of the food is good, but in terms of the quality of coffee beverages and service, more training is required. A latte can be a fairly expensive way of drinking your coffee. As such, the milk texture and quality of espresso need to be carefully prepared.

The service is alright, but being more mindful of customers within the cafe space is recommended here.

And then there is the atmosphere. I’ve been here on a couple of occasions and each time, there was no music playing in the background, and the decor and interior appears unfinished, both leading to an “off” and...

I recently spent 5 days in St. John's and happened upon Memorial Cafe as it was close to my hotel. A chilly February evening, I came from the cold to find a cute, funky cafe with lots of interesting books lining the windows. I got Amsterdam vibe immediately. While I perused the menu at the cashier, a very pleasant voice greeted me and we talked about the various specials. My eye went right to Butter Chicken & Naan. Being from Vancouver, I thought it would interesting to compare it to the west coast fare. It was delicious, the serving was large, I was so tired from my long flight but I ate every bite. The price was good, looking forward to moving here.

I was really disappointed with this place. The service was okay, the coffee wasn’t great considering their prices are similar to other excellent cafes nearby. I was mostly shocked by the state of the interior, it looked like it was falling apart. The floor was cracked and peeling, same with the tables and chairs. It felt like I was dining in an abandoned house. Not to mention the makeshift table (crates with a blanket thrown on top). It is not a space you want to hangout in. This cafe is in a beautiful area of downtown and could be so successful if proper care was taken of the space. I hope the owners consider this.

I had a Saturday morning in this Cafe. I had a coffee and a blueberry muffin which was not fresh, but coffee was good. When I arrived at 10:30, it was like still not fully ready for costumer. There was no options for fresh things for breakfast, just some muffins in a box. The place was not cleaned completely and there were still napkins left under tables! There was no window netting on the window I was sitting beside to prevent bugs getting in. So, I guess that was my first and last time trying it.
