A Disappointing First Visit to Moxie's

Last night, my husband and I, accompanied by another couple, decided to try out Moxie's for the first time. Unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired.

Upon ordering an appetizer to share, we were surprised to find that plates and cutlery were not provided until a few minutes after the dish was delivered. This initial hiccup set the tone for the evening.

While my husband and I enjoyed our meals, the other couple ordered steaks. The medium steak arrived well-done, and we were informed by the food runner that there had been an incident in the kitchen, resulting in the need for a remake. Unfortunately, this meant that three of us had nearly finished our meals by the time the last one was delivered.

Throughout the dining experience, our waitress failed to inquire about the quality of our food after the appetizer, and she neglected to ask if we wanted refills. While she did take the initiative to discount the affected meal and remove a glass of wine from the bill, the overall service did not meet our expectations.

Given the premium prices at Moxie's, we anticipated a higher standard of service. In the event of a mistake like the one with the steak, we would have expected a manager to visit our table and offer a sincere apology. Unfortunately, this level of customer service was lacking.

While the food quality for two of us was satisfactory, the overall experience was marred by service shortcomings. We hope that Moxie's takes steps to improve their customer service to match the premium dining experience they aim to provide. Needless to say we won't be back, first impressions are so important and ours was so...

I’ll start off by saying the service was 5 star! No issues there at all.

The food...I ordered the lettuce wraps, very tasty and I enjoyed it greatly. The sangria, let’s just say after several glasses, definitely no complaints.

The reason I went to Moxies was to try the steak, I was so looking forward to getting a real nice thick cut of beef. Very disappointed in the cut, preparation / seasoning and temp of the steak. The cut itself was somewhat thin for the biggest steak on the menu of 10oz.

The wait on food was a little long, the server brought out complimentary fries...great gesture and all, however my companion had fries as her app...so basically fries with more fries and a quick look at her meal order...it had fries on it as well.

The steak looked like it was cooked from frozen, maybe thawed in a microwave or hot water, then tossed onto the grill to get marks. The steak when cut, had a blanched almost white look, with a light pink center. I ordered it rare, even if it was overcooked, still didn’t have the appearance of happening from a grille. The mushroom sauce was very runny/greasy/salty more than flavourful, and unfortunately no other sauce options like a béarnaise or peppercorn.

I think the server expected me to complain about the steak, because when she asked how it was my only answer was a hesitant ok. That “ok” was enough for her to proactively take the meal off the bill. Even she could see I was being generous with my “ok”.

Between the great appetizer, drinks, and service I’d give it another try. Just worried that the cut of the steak (thin) is the standard and therefore the preparation wouldn’t make...

I went to Moxie's for my birthday last year and had a horrific experience which I left a review on their Facebook page, however it seems I cannot leave another review so I've come to google reviews to leave again a not such a great a review. I am vegan so finding restaurants that can cater to my diet a bit of a challenge. This time I went for a Christmas party, seeing that they had an updated menu I was willing to give the restaurant a second chance, especially because they had a lot more vegan friendly options! I ordered the tofu wraps at first...the server came back 20 minutes later to let me know they had no more tofu. So I ordered the vegan tacos. The server returned 5 minutes later and told me they were also out of the tacos. So I went with the Beyond meat burger. When it came I realized it had cheese. When I had questioned whether it was vegan or not, the server grabbed another server (I could feel her frustration, because I was also frustrated at this point) who happened to be vegan and she informed me that both the mayo and bun that came with the burger were not vegan. They took my meal back and returned with a sad lettuce bun burger and fries. Luckily I was not charged for my food but I was so excited and willing to give this place another chance. Sorry Moxie's but I will not be retuning again, and I do not recommend this place if you are vegan. They do have a lot to offer but at this particular time half of their plant-based menu was...
