Food: My friend and I ordered Kala Bhuna and it was not nearly anything that we Bangladeshis call "Kala Bhuna". There was green pepper instead of green chilli. Please name the items accordingly, as it could be named as Beef bhuna/Beef Curry or Beef with Pepper(!), or whatever you see as a good fit for the ingredients you used.
Customer Experience: I placed a comment about the food not representing true Bangladeshi taste and about using green pepper in the so-called "Kala Bhuna".
The reply from the owner looked like this,
"its not green pepper, its green chopped chilies to bring more flavour. May be you come here new and still having home taste bud. Its ok you will get used to. Thanks for your comment."
Now, the first thing is, what type of Bangladeshi guy will be unable to differ a green chilli from a green paper? Only a blind one.
And, most importantly, yeah whoever commented on an order, a newcomer, a settled immigrant, a student or whoever, you do not have any right to say anything about it.
Now, what? HOME TASTE BUD??? Who are you to comment about my home taste bud? I will keep my (!!!) Bangladeshi taste bud using what I tasted as my mother and other Bangladeshi people cooked. So, do you recommend customers to replace their tongue before dining at your place?
I have attached two screenshots. One is the response I got through UberEats, and another is a review of some other customer, where the owner posted 'lol' as a reply to a review. It also has another customer complaining about butter chicken being too sweet.
Suggestions: 1 - If you say Bangladeshi and East Indian food in your restaurant name, please try to serve the same. Minus (-1) star for not being authentic and consistent. 2 - Name the items properly, after looking at what you used as ingredients. People expect Kala Bhuna when you say Kala Bhuna as the name. -1 star for improper naming of the item. 3 - Please get trained about how to behave with customers and how to respond to customers'critical feedback. One part of the business is how you treat your customers. Definitely not with 'lol' or derogatory comment about his taste bud. -2 star for customer treatment.
And this is one of my several times of dining in and ordering at their place. Every time the experience was more...
Read moreWhat an absolutely dreadful experience. I’ve dined at numerous Indian restaurants, but I’ve never encountered anything quite as appalling as this place. I went for lunch with some friends and ordered the Chicken Roast served with Saffron Pilau Rice, expecting a delicious meal. Instead, I was thoroughly disappointed.
The chicken was dry and visibly overcooked – as you can clearly see in the photo. As for the rice, it was an absolute travesty. Pilau rice is meant to be light and fluffy, with distinct grains, but what I was served resembled a sloppy mess. It was mushy, almost as if someone had pounded the rice into a paste.
I brought this to the attention of the staff, but they shrugged it off, claiming the entire batch was like that and there was nothing they could do. Shockingly, there wasn’t even an apology, and they still charged me for the meal in full despite me leaving most of it untouched.
When I mentioned the incident to a colleague who had recommended this place, she was equally surprised and assured me it shouldn’t have looked or tasted like that.
I’d strongly advise giving this place a miss and finding another Indian restaurant that knows how to prepare proper food and treat customers with respect. I hope this review saves someone else from a similarly disappointing...
Read moreThis is the second time that I ha e visited NJ's Kitchen. Just like the first time I was super impressed. The owner was just looking out the door as we were entering. He held the door for us and welcomed us to the restaurant. Standard practice is to choose your own seat. We did, near the buffet! Supper buffet was $19.99. They also offer a lunch buffet at $14.99. All you can eat!!! There is a 15 % discount for students. Awesome considering the location is so close to the local university, but I digress. The food is just awesome. Did I say the food is just awesome? The menu indicates which items are non meat. There are many, if being a vegetarian is your thing. Not vegetarian? Good as the meat dishes are many and so flavorful. Accurate descriptions of what is included and how spicy are very clear in the menu for those who have not yet had the opportunity to eat at NJ's Kitchen, or are just starting out with the various currys. First time there for my partner, she loved everything she had. As did I. Both times I have bee there, the place was not full. People, start coming here for a meal. It would be a tremendous loss if business doesn't warrant them staying open, as the food and the service is First Rate. NJ's Kitchen - you should...
