Divine! A must stop for anyone in St John's who wants excellent food with incredibly friendly service and a cozy atmosphere. Pro tip: make a reservation! We saw several groups turned away as they did not have one, and all of the tables appeared to be reserved when we showed up for a 5 o'clock reservation on a Tuesday evening. Our party had the calamari, seafood chowder, and salad to start, and then Cajun salmon (a daily special), the seafood platter, and the tenderloin for entrees, with maple cinnamon bread pudding for dessert. Zero complaints about any of it, absolutely phenomenal food. The steak was better than what we're used to in Alberta, and the seafood was cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. Our server made the experience even better as she was personable, quick to respond, and very professional. The restaurant is not large, which meant it was fairly quiet even when it started to fill up. When we're back in St John's we will definitely be visiting again.

My first time at Oliver's was a night worth remembering. I tried the lamb shank, which is made by slow cooking the lamb for 10 hours, which results in a texture which falls apart upon being touched with a fork, and melts in your mouth. My girlfriend had the seafood fettuccine which had tiger shrimp and was made with a coconut base. It was savoury and sweet with the seafood smell being enhanced with every bite. We finished our date off with a crème brulee, which had a nice crisp burn on the top. Breaking which was fully satisfying and the sound was worth doing it again. So, we ordered another. The servers were very kind with their recommendations, and with their selection of wine. A perfect place for a date night, and to make memories. The ambience, food, wine selection and the great service, more than makes up for the price. Highly recommend if you're planning a date night and haven't decided on a place yet.

Enjoyed a lovely brunch at Oliver’s in downtown St. John’s. The atmosphere was nice and service was great. We had coffee which was good. Our meals came plated with potato hash brown bits, a nice helping of bacon, two eggs as requested, cantaloupe slice and some other melon slice, and toast (two slices). My wife requested gluten free bread and when it arrived it came unbuttered. She is not celiac but does have a sensitivity to gluten so we wondered if that was why they did not butter it. She asked for butter and the server brought their, butter of the week, it was molasses butter! It seemed to be butter whipped with molasses and it was absolutely delicious! We have never thought of trying that at home but definitely will now. The price was reasonable considering you were eating at a small local restaurant in the downtown area. We would definitely visit again if staying in the city.

I was looking for authentic NL cuisine and I wasn’t disappointed! The server was helpful and friendly. The food was prepared fresh and quickly and well packaged. Cod tongues was served with a generous amount of scrumptious scruncheon that was crispy, yet juicy when bitten into and perfectly salty! Cod was meaty and tasty. The seafood chowder was creamy and full of chunks of delicious seafood and full of flavour (generous pieces of salmon which I enjoyed though there was a tiny piece of bone in one of the salmon pieces). I wish they would give more than one small piece of crostini with the soup though. The pan fried cod was good but a little bland. I did like it was topped with scruncheon. 👍🏻 Fries were good but the veggies were a bit undercooked (crunchy carrots and zucchini). Overall it was an awesome lunch and I’d definitely return to try other dishes.

First night in the town, had to make a reservation for this place, no place before 9 pm. It is very small, so plan your night in advance. The menu had good choices, that all looked tasty, but was a bit overpriced on some items. The server was very friendly and knew the menu by heart. A good choice of wines, drinks and local beers Tried cod tongues for the first time, I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was very good! A Newfoundland delicacy. We also shared deep fried calamari with an excellent Thai sauce. I went with the curry seafood pasta plate. A good choice, very tasty. Everyone at the table enjoyed their dinner (we all tasted each others plates) This started well our night

My fiancée and I went to Oliver’s for our 2 year anniversary. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere is great, complete with a wine wall and some lovely mood lighting. The wait staff was incredibly kind and attentive, and the vibe of the place was intimate. Both of us got one of their chicken dishes, and wow, it was amazing. Cooked perfectly with a great flavour and texture, accompanied by fresh cut fries and a light vegetable medley. We would recommend going here for a romantic night or a nice meal in downtown St. John’s. The one thing I will recommend is to ABSOLUTELY book a reservation if you are going to go. They fill up quickly!
