As a recent transplant from the lower mainland of BC, I’ve been missing really good south East Asian cuisines. I’ve also been travelling the last week across Newfoundland and been having too many burger and fries. So when it was time to find a dinner location to meet up with friends, I was happy to find this restaurant which offered classic curries but also interesting fusion dishes that won’t intimidate less adventurous eaters.
I had the lamb curry with garlic naan bread and extra order of basmati rice, others in the party ordered the butter chicken rice bowl & pint of beer dinner special, as well as fusion taco plate with curry chicken.
I really enjoyed my lamb curry, it was a good balance of retaining authenticity while not making it too hot for the local palettes. My partner also really enjoyed the butter chicken rice bowl - he commented this would be a place to visit again if we ever come back to town, and I completely agree!
The service was very friendly and helpful, and we had a really enjoyable time. My only regret was I didn’t take a photo of the food so I can post with...
Read moreOh so good. I rarely review, but have to with this place. We were heading out to our fave fish and chips pub(s) downtown but one was overfull( Tibbs Eve) and the other doesn't serve food on Mondays. We were recommended to try On the Rocks. The Masala Fish and Chips were perfect. I don't know what magic they are doing in the kitchen but it was flavourful, with perfect crisp and no sogginess at all ...even the next day as leftovers. Had the 'mule' cocktail (forget the name) and it was yummy! My only actual complaint is that we were too full to try dessert. Will definitely be back to try everything else. I'd say don't go expecting traditional Indian dishes because ,as advertised, it's fusion. But authentic cooks that have lifted F&Cs to the next level. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting with...

My wife and I were trying different restaurants here in St. John's Newfoundland and we came across On The Rocks. We decided to try it out, upon entering we were delighted to a very atmospheric restaurant.
When we asked about the meat, they said it was Halal. The meat itself is from Mina Halal Meat which sealed the deal for us 🍖 We ordered the chicken biryani, butter chicken with garlic naan.
Everything was absolutely delicious 😍 food was cooked fresh, well portioned and seasoned. Honestly my wife and I were so surprised by how good it was! 😱 On top of which the pricing for the meals was not bad at all!
Overall On The Rocks is an exceptional restaurant serving much variety and good vibes! 👏 Would...
