Second Cup Café — Restaurant in St. John's

Huge disappointment! I tried Second Cup on Kenmount 2 weeks ago and was disappointed with my beverage. I was offered points to make up for the disappointment so excitedly, I went to redeem my points this evening to finally get a proper Santa's Cookie Latte, as the one 2 weeks ago was disappointing. The café wasn't busy this time (great, I thought.) The server was busy with her back turned, tending to something, looked back at me and didn't say a thing, no "I'll be with you in a minute" nothing, okay fine.. Eventually after a short time she decides to serve me. She stands in front of me at the cash, no greeting, blank stare, I guess she was ready to take my order ?? so I ask for a small Santa's Cookie Latte. She tells me the total and I show her my points card to scan that she didn't ask for. I ask her if the beverage is free, as I have plenty of points, she taps her fingers and replies with an unsure answer of yes. Her coworker returns behind the counter and the server got frustrated and was clearly overheard talking about what a bad day she's having which is unprofessional but I feel for her. She then splatters milk on herself from being so clearly frustrated. She was about to put my lid on my drink when I asked her if the drink is supposed to come with whip topping like the photo because I didn't get it the last time either and she was about to serve me without it. She looks at the photo then replies "we're supposed to ask if you want it...but...sometimes we don't...but.. " then proceeds to put whip topping on. I must say, my drink did taste better than last time despite not getting the Cookie dough bits that are also supposed to come on it. Anyway. I'll likely never go to this location again and won't recommend to anyone. 2 different servers at 2 separate times couldn't make my drink properly and were a mess...

I was once a VERY loyal customer to Second Cup for many, many years, but the place now leaves a lot to be desired. Most of the beans were replaced roughly 10 to 12 years ago and are now over-roasted and Batch 49 doesn't cut it.. I mean getting rid of "Kenya" beans along with a lot of other customer favorites? The space in the Avalon Mall used to be a cozy little getaway with the best lattes in town. But since COVID, it's really gone downhill. There's very little seating anymore, with a bookcase in the corner for kids along with a pile of stock in the other corner taking up a lot of space and looking more like a warehouse. And the seating in the front that overlooks the mall used to have high bar chairs that were very aesthetically attractive and the perfect height. Now they're so short you can barely see over the counter. The only thing that's never really been an issue at Second Cup is the staff. But this place needs a...

I ordered a latte. And I will tell you that it was not coffee and it was not a coffee drink. It was something so strange that after my wife and I took a sip of that drink, I immediately gave this big glass to the staff and said that this is the worst coffee I've ever had. I realize that in North America, the cult of coffee is far from European. But along with this problem, I have a question. Have you ever had coffee at Starbucks, or even at your "famous" Tim Hortons? If you make coffee, it should at least not be worse than in these...
