The food was was good, but the service was absolutely horrible. Visited the Torbay road location on June 24th for the first time and it will most certainly be my last! We waited over 15 minutes in the lobby to even be acknowledged by a staff member, who told us she needed to clean a table for us (fine), and then another 10 minutes for a different employee to actually go clean the table and bring us over. While we waited, we watched as a group of older gentlemen had to repeatedly ask where their order was, as one gentleman received his order as we arrived and the other didn't receive his until we sat down. When we were finally seated we were not given menus - I went to get those myself -nor the glasses of water that were promised to us. Once seated, it was another 20 minutes before any staff member acknowledged the table or offered any kind of service at all. When we were finally served and the drinks/food were brought to the table, all of the dishes were slammed down with force or more or less thrown onto the table. Tables around us were left dirty with discarded plates and food long after customers had departed (we counted 7 empty but dirty tables around us at one point) with a line of customers waiting for tables out the door. As we waited for our food, we also watched a server deliver a dish to a table only for the guests to exclaim that they had not ordered this particular dish (still fine, people make mistakes!). However, after discovering his mistake, the server took the incorrectly served dish, which the guests at the table it was served to had already touched, and immediately reserved it to the correct table. Ignoring the fact that were still in a pandemic, that to me is unacceptable.
Now don't get me wrong, I understand that it was busy (fine) and wait times can be necessary (also fine) but customers should never be ignored as they stand waiting for a table, nor should they be ignored while at the table. A simple "hi, were a little busy right now it will be a few minutes for a table" would have gone a long way. I will definitely be sticking to Sushi Island...
Read moreThe all-you-can-eat price is pretty sensible for lunch time. $19.99. I had a green tea which I was charged for. Always feel like that should kind of be included with all you can eat. Anyways I had asked for no tempura bits in my sushi as I find a lot of sushi places are putting to many fried bits to fill up the rolls. My roles came out with a boat 60% fried bits. I sent them back and asked to have them remade. The Green dragon came with four pieces and was probably the best thing that I ate. I also ordered a shrimp to tempura. It was exactly the same as the green dragon except for no avocado on top. I ordered the new green onion wrapped with beef. The ratio of green onion to beef was not good. I did enjoy a small drizzle of sauce as it was not drowned in it. I had the wonton soup and the miso soup. Both were bland. I ordered the crab tempura and it was way over battered and close to being crispy enough. I feel bad giving this place a bad review because I have enjoyed sun sushi here in St John's since they open up their location downtown. This location open up close to where I live and I was very excited. This is the second time I have attempted to eat here and it is not good. They are packing their rolls with wheat fried bits to save on cost. The quality is definitely lacking here. The table I also said it had soy sauce built on it that was not cleaned up. One good thing I could say is that the service is good at this location. I know that the downtown location has a reputation of having bad service but I would rather have bad service than...
Read moreUnfortunately I have to give a negative review. The sushi is delicious and the atmosphere is great. However, the customer service is terrible. Waited over half an hour for someone to take my second order while others who came 15 minutes prior to me leaving were already on their second course or third. They seem severely understaffed and I never have the same waiter when I come here (turnovers maybe)? Either way I have given this business so many chances to improve their customer service and every time I go it’s a hit or miss.
Seems like they prioritize DoorDash orders rather than people who are eating in. In the span of my half hour wait for my second order I saw several DoorDash orders go out. I figured that a paying customer that actually comes to your establishment to eat should be given priority as they DRIVE there to EAT at YOUR business. Not the other way around. I should also mention this happens almost every time I come here. The lack of organization turns away customers, including myself who will not be wasting my money here again just to leave hungry. I am not going to pay for a buffet just to leave after getting two sushi rolls. Albeit in the past I have paid full price for a buffet I did not get, which was unfair.
The food is great, but the customer service takes away from it. Get more staff, better training on your ordering system, and stop prioritizing DoorDash orders over in-person customers who took the time to actually...
