I came May the 15th, around 3pm. I ordered the chief’s choice 20 pieces and a salmon sushi pizza for take out
Among the 20 pieces I had 6 makis whose fish tasted like the aftertaste of the refrigerator... I really doubt the quality of sushi at this point. Then for the salmon sushi pizza, I don't know if I was unlucky but when I look at the other pictures taken, mine was not nearly as fresh and the taste was very strange... it tasted like the end of the oven dish. So I don't understand all these high reviews. Is it because I came on a Sunday afternoon? Does that mean that the owner is not able to have a good quality of his ingredients at all times? Really disappointed. There are other places in St. John's that offer better and cheaper sushi ( Aka Sushi Nami Noodle) and I can say that this place is very average. I hope that I don't get sick later. To be continued!
Update: I increased my score from 1 to 3 because of the owner’s professionalism and that is what any customer deserves when you have to deal with a business. That’s an excellent customer service. I’ll give another try because I'm sure that I was unlucky the last time I went there compared to other customers who seemed to have...
Read moreMy son & I tried Sushi Maki for the first time on Saturday night, based on all the great reviews, & were totally disappointed! Of course, we have eaten at most of the Sushi places in town so we have lots to compare it to. In as much as pretty pink rolls & cucumber slices look nice, the cucumber rolls are awkward, thick & hard to eat. The atmosphere is very cluttered, the Sushi bar is obstructed, the prices were high, and the place was totally empty at 7 pm on a Saturday night!! That should have been our first clue. Not sure where those glowing reviews have come from, but they certainly are not a reflection of our...
Read moreThis was my second time eating at Sushi Maki. Just like the first time, I Loved it!!! Located at 655 Topsail Rd (unit 711) in the east end of Waterford Plaza, across the road from New World Fitness. 237-1800 As a non fish eater, I always opt for the veggie sushi menus. Sushi Maki does not disappoint with the veggie options. Miso soup and edamame to start followed by the spicy veggie sushi. AWESOME There's never a crowd, the food and service are without fault. If you have not been, YOU SHOULD GO THERE. Its the ONLY sushi place in the west end...
