We initially stopped by on a Sunday, following a hike of Signal Hill. Unfortunately, we were 10 minutes too late. A very kind gentleman was cleaning up outside and informed us it was closed but told us to come back the next morning and he would give us a treat. He also offered us water. We were leaving the area to explore the Burin Peninsula, the next morning so didn’t have the opportunity to drop back, but the following Sunday, we found ourselves in St. John’s again and made sure to go for lunch. So glad we did! I had the Chimmy Chicken sandwich with Carrot Ginger soup, and an iced latte. It was one of my favourite lunches on our trip to Newfoundland. We loved the atmosphere, friendly staff, and our meal. Very casual place with an outside walk up window and some outside seating and small dining area. The inside dining area you place your order at the counter and they deliver to your table. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area. Parking looks to be a little tricky but we were staying within walking distance so didn’t have to worry about it. It would absolutely be a great way to end a hike of Signal Hill, just pay attention to their hours prior.

So far, it is the only decent barista cafe in downtown, perfectly located uphill on the way to Signal Hill, bohemian atmosphere. The service and attitude are good. Unfortunately, my experience with food was unpleasant , I asked for a salmon bagel, just the salmon, and put just a bit of mustard, after some delay on the delivery of my order, which waited patiently, it seems the guy from the kitchen squeezed the whole bottle in. I come from Riviera Maya / Tulum, a cosmopolita town with a world-class high standard of service and food.. as a businessman, I understand how hard it is to run and keep alive a business these days, taxes, municipal control, staffed shortage, high cost, and so on.. I tipped with the 25% of my bill in order to encourage the staff and the business but dissatisfied with the "naivity " of the kitchen. I am not complaining about the price, not even for the size of the bagel. I fell in love with New Foundland, and since I m able to manage my businesses from anywhere around the globe, I am looking to come back here for 3 months during summer time. Hopefully, this review will help to improve the quality of the kitchen.

We stopped by here after hiking all over Signal Hill and on the way back to our place. We were incredibly thirsty as it was a hot day and we had done a lot of walking. We ordered 2 16oz Rhubarb Lemonades. We almost finished them right after we got them as they were so great and refreshing! Best lemonade I ever had! I was going to order a Monte Cristo sandwich but they were out. My wife ordered a Chimi Chicken sandwich so I ordered that as well. The bread was so good, not too hard or too soft but just right and tasted wonderful! The chicken was shredded and had a really tasty sauce and seasoning. Along with the spinach and cheese it was so damn great as well! The staff were great and very friendly! Make sure you stop by here if you looking for a great breakfast or lunch as this place is it!

After a hike on Signal Hill, we stopped here for a quick bite to eat on way to the airport. Was recommended by a friend who knows I love good coffee. The Battery Café did not disappoint. Big mugs filled with their house brand or as I call it liquid gold. Smooth rich coffee. I had a bagel with butter and he had the breakfast sandwich – both very good. There was also a large dessert selection and chocolates and sweet treats to choose from. We can’t forget the variety of coffees available for sale either. All very reasonably priced. There’s also a patio outside with a walk up window. A quaint corner café and a bustling place with constant customers coming in for their fix. Like everywhere we went in NL, friendly and welcoming service.

Ahh I really wanted to like this place. But given the prices and the service, I’d recommend people to go somewhere else. The service was just okay, but it’s one of those times when tipping even 15% felt like too much. But I guess most coffee shops are like that now. And the food: super small portions, nothing special, but for more than special prices. I get that it’s a touristy town, but it’s more expensive than other coffee shops nearby. Here’s a photo of the breakfast sandwich. It literally fits on the palm of my hand, for $10 plus tip. And my hands are on the smaller side! What saves this place is the decor and location, it is pretty lovely.

Coffee was delicious. For those who really like a strong coffee to kick things up a notch after a good hike try their cortado. Good selection of wraps, sandwiches and breakfast option along with the usual fair you would find in a good coffee shop. Seating is limited inside as is parking along the side. They have a small outdoor patio area and they sell local items such a homemade jam, coffee, tonic, chocolate, local art, shirts and mugs. Prices are higher than a chain coffee location but quality is superior. Good option if you are a coffee hound and like a cool ambiance to enjoy your cup of joe.
