THE WORST. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU CAN. We ordered the 2-piece fish and chips earlier this evening. The meal cost in excess of $20, tax included, and it wasn't worth 2 cents. Where do I start? The French fries were cold, dried up, and some of them weren't even French fries. Mixed in among the fries were various bits and bobs, potato ends, pieces of batter, and other items whose identity is still a mystery. I found something in the dish that seemed to be some kind of battered seafood, but I'm not sure what kind. The texture was like an ancient rubber band, and it tasted like something that had crawled underneath a local wharf and died of despair. The battered fish seemed to have been battered - literally. The texture was a cross between wet paper and a deflated sponge. I think the fish probably died of old age, helped along by someone who cornered it in a dark alley and beat it with a hockey stick until it begged for death. Deep-fried fish isn't supposed to be WET. It's supposed to be succulent, buttery, melting on the tongue. This fish did not melt on the tongue. It hated the tongue intensely and wanted the tongue to suffer. Like the French fries, the cod was cold, and tasted of nothing. All in all, the money spent on this "meal" (I use the term loosely) would have been better spent on several yards of wet paper, which would have tasted more or less the same....
Read moreAside from the amazing fish/chicken fries dressing and gravy you would expect, the menu has much more options to offer. The breakfasts, like all meals, are great quantities and let you choose how you prefer your eggs and offer 4 different meats. The toutons are also great. And if you love great breakfast, ask for the breakfast card. Any breakfast will give a stamp once per day so if you visit often you can get a free classic breakfast really quick. (2 eggs, hashbrowns or beans, meat of your choice and I believe the meat choices are ham, bologna, sausage, or bacon. Plus toast.)
Breakfast aside my personal favorite is wedges with dressing and gravy. Cod is great too and the specials change. Last week the cod bites, fries and gravy and 3 wings fries and gravy were on special. I knew a girl who worked there, everything down to coleslaw is made there daily. Similar to ches' but less expensive and I personally prefer big rs wedges, gravy and dressing. I have been going since highschool, and 15 years the only thing that has changed in the great construction choices they made to add more seating and make your stay...
