This restaurant/bar is a nice and fancy place for an evening meal in St. John's. We went in around 21:20 local time and were seated at a table. There was a main menu and a lounge menu, as well as a drink menu. We shared some large nachos and duck wings, which were both superbly cooked. I've never had western style duck wings so they were pleasantly delicious indeed. The nachos were large and suitable for 3-4 people. My friend ordered the lobster linguini or something. I recommend this place. The drinks were good too. I have the michelob ultra and it was tasty. Very very lite. Our waiter was super nice. He said it's his first day/week on the job but he did really well. I didn't get his name but he was very nice and friendly. Good vibes. Good food. Come here.

I had the Seafood Linguine Medley, which was full of flavor. It included two or three large scallops, four or five mussels, and about two shrimp. The sauce was a delightful creamy rosé, not overly salty as I’ve sometimes found in other restaurants. The rest of my party had the Cajun Chicken Fettuccine. It was delicious, but very spicy, which we enjoyed since we like a bit of heat. We also tried the Smash Burger and Mediterranean Chicken Skewers, both of which were very good. We appreciated that the restaurant wasn’t overly loud, especially after visiting two other places the day before (O’Rileys and Celtic Hearth) where we had to shout to hear each other. Our server, a young man from Mexico studying biochemistry, was fantastic.

Spent our anniversary dinner at the Gypsy Tea Room. We've been here previously, but have decided to leave a review as we have a consistent experience at this establishment. Service was excellent. We were checked on frequently, our glasses were never empty, and we were given updates on the arrival of our meal. The wait staff recommended their daily special (the salmon dish). It was delicious and should be a regular item on their menu. The lobster rigatoni pasta meal was also quite good, but on the rich side as they add dressing to the meal. A little more sauce would help soak up the bread, and a bit more spice to balance the plate. Overall, we will be returning to the Gypsy Tea Room for future meals. Thank you!

I did not have a good experience at this restaurant from beginning to end. I ordered my drink and waited around. It was not very busy and I noticed no one had started making my drink. There was no bartender and the servers were making the drinks, so I was understanding. The server noticed me looking at her and then proceeded to make the drink and I received it about 15 mins or more after ordering. The staff seemed unorganized and we didn’t know who was our actual server because there were two people tending to us and even after we ordered our food, the second server came over to take our order again…. I ended up ordering some chips because we didn’t eat all day and she asked if we wanted potato chips or chips and salsa. We asked for the chips with salsa and they brought out potato chips. We ordered nachos and tacos and wanted them brought out the same time. Our nachos came out and everything was burnt. The cheese was completely brown and the chicken was so dry that my friend couldn’t eat them. I asked for onions on the side and they did not come out. The server didn’t even ask me if I wanted another drink even though my glass was empty and our water glasses were empty. We decided to ask for a box and the tacos to go since we weren’t enjoying the service and they weren’t checking on us. The tacos did not come out for another 20 minutes and they were extremely average. I asked the server twice for some extra sour cream in the to go box and when I got home, of course there were none. We said no onions on the tacos and yeppp, there were onions so my friend again could not eat those because she hates onions. The meal cost 100 dollars and I didn’t even see a receipt so I have no idea why. 1/10 for this place and I would give...

My sisters and I visited Gypsy for our birthday celebration, my sister and I (twins)were celebrating our birthday.

Our server was Gary, he barely greeted us and took 40 minutes to come back to take our drink order, he didn’t return to ask if we needed refills or anything. When we needed drink refills we had to go to the bar to ask.

When he finally came back for our drink order we ordered our meals/starters rather then wait an additional 40 minutes for him to come back again. While ordering one of my sisters asked if she could replace one of the sides and he asked “what do you want?”, when my other sister asked what the side options were he again asked “what do you want?”

It took an hour and a half to get our starters then another 40 minutes to get our mains. The table behind us who ordered after us received their starters and meals before we got our starter. We did actually ask to have our scallops with our meal rather then as a “starter” but we ended up getting it as a starter. The food was good for the main part except my sisters kabob was cold.

One of the girls working at the bar (Ally) must have realized how badly Gary was treating us because she actually came over to refill our water and apologize for the long wait, she then took over our service for the remainder of our time there. Ally was wonderful and if Gary needs some additional training I’m sure he could shadow Ally to find out what a great server does.

I don’t live in the province anymore and I actually suggested going to Gupsy for our birthday dinner but after this experience I would think twice before suggesting this as the place...

I went here July 25th, 2020 at about 1pm to eat lunch. This would’ve been my first time here. There’s a sign outside that basically days if I wanted a patio seat, I would line up there. So I did. The server asked me if how he could help me and I told him I’m hoping to get a patio seat. He pointed out that the 2 tables outside are already reserved for a group of people. So I have no problem there, I told him “no worries! I’ll eat inside instead”. So he pointed me to the door going in.

Upon entering the restaurant, I AM LOST. No one greeted me by the door. Or told me where to sit. I went by the bar and the bartender for some reason didn’t really see me? (like really?). So the server from the patio went in and pointed me towards a seat and said “you can sit there if you want”. So I did.. again, I don’t know if this is a “seat yourself” restaurant or they’ll seat you because of all the covid...

The worst part... I SAT THERE FOR 15 minutes without anyone coming to me, giving me the menu, even saying hi, NOTHING. I sat there and really felt like an idiot. I understand you can be busy. But is it because I’m wearing my workout clothes and sneakers?

I left there, like, walked out, and NO ONE said a thing. like I never even existed. they were busy with other groups of people coming in. and don’t notice the solo person.

I am sure the food would’ve tasted great. But I mean, 15 minutes?! really?!

If you’re going solo, think again. You’re better off getting served if you went...
