I came to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We made reservation and mentioned about our special day. My wife ordered Kobe Wagyu and I ordered Bison Ribs teak. Both of us ordered medium. My bison was perfect. Vegetable, truffle fries and garlic mash was superb too. only Kobe Wagyu was way over cooked and charred. First of all after waiting almost 30 minutes we received our wrong appetizer. We ordered raw Oyster, we received baked one. Oyster was not clean enough and was not separated from the shell. I never seen small Oyster in my life. 6 Oysters for $22. Also server did not tell us about the portion size of the $230 wagyu. When Wagyu steak arrived we showed our server that steak was overcooked and well done. we requested medium. she was telling us to cut from the middle and see. we showed her it was white like well done in the middle too. we did not talk farther. Before I review here I informed them through Facebook messenger. Instead of saying anything they gave us heart emoji. It was strange to see no reply but a heart emoji. Bit of insult huh!! lol We were at least expecting that server would offer us to see dessert menu at the end or offer any house special at the beginning. No bread and butter to the table, not even any chips while we are waiting for the food. Seems like they don’t care at all. We are not saying to give us free food or dessert. We expected bit of welcoming gesture and expected better service where sells Japanese Kobe Wagyu. If I go somewhere to spend $500 for dinner I would expect exceptional level in food preparation, in service and in atmosphere. I felt like we went to Granny’s Soup and Sandwich restaurant.
Last not the least, I wont recommend for trying out their Wagyu. My other friends told me the same who tried before. I thought I should go and see by my own. My friends were right.
I wish...

Our group of eight adults (four couples) went out to celebrate two birthdays. We had a 5:00 PM reservation and arrived in a limo, excited for an evening of great food, drinks, and celebration.
As we entered the restaurant and proceeded to our table, one of the men in our group handed his empty beer can (inside a Yeti rambler) to the host, asking for it to be disposed of. We had just stepped out of the limo, where we enjoyed a pre-drink on the way, and didn’t think this would be an issue.
However, instead of a simple acknowledgement, he was scolded like a child. We understand that open liquor isn't allowed in restaurants—he did too! But this was an empty can, nothing more.
Things escalated when our waitress was pulled aside by the host, who then went to get the manager. The manager approached our table and continued reprimanding the man, to the point where he apologized again—yet the manager still refused to serve him alcohol!
When another person in our group asked if he would be allowed to order a drink, the manager responded rudely and dismissively, saying he’d "decide that" and that we shouldn’t put words in his mouth. Seriously?! Over an empty can?
To make matters worse, we were told that the rest of us could order drinks, but our friend would likely not be served. At that point, we decided to leave. We called our ride back and went to The Merchant, where we were treated with the respect and hospitality that a group of adults celebrating a special occasion deserves.
Bottom line: If you want to be treated poorly, embarrassed, and scolded, this is the place for you. If not, take your...
Read moreThis was our first time here, and it will NOT be the last. As a steak lover, it is wonderful to see a place paying proper attention to beef. Lots of fantastic restaurants downtown St. John's, but no good steakhouse. Nice to see something outside the downtown core that is doing something not done elsewhere in town.
Our table of 4 was seated promptly, welcomed warmly and professionally, and tended to discreetly but in a friendly manner. The staff and management seem happy and relaxed, and very attentive.
We tried a few different apps and steaks, and everyone's meal was served exactly how it was ordered - you want medium rare? That's what we got. Someone ordered medium? Nailed it. The Blue Dot PEI beef is excellent quality anyway, and the kitchen seasoned ours well and cooked them perfectly. Fantastic!
The wine list isn't huge, but covers the essential bases and you'll find something that works for your palate. Sides were solid - we mostly went simple stuff - baked potatoes and vegetables, but other options were tempting. I'll have to try others next time.
Can't comment on dessert - who has room after an 18oz ribeye? Maybe next time!
Prices are definitely in line with the value you get. I felt they were more than fair, and have eaten at places in other parts of the world that have notably higher prices for beef that didn't deliver as well as the Rock did. Skip the chain steak joint downtown and go to a real steakhouse. Looking forward to going back to The Rock. Recommend...
