During our visit, we had the pleasure of trying some of their signature and special offers. We could not resist ordering the special Mussels (1lbs) with sundried tomatoes and pesto, accompanied by sourdough toast. The combination of flavors was simply astounding, with the sun-dried tomatoes and the pesto. The mussels were delicious and almost wanted to order more. The addition of the sourdough toast provided a delightful contrast in textures.
We also decided to try their signature Ship Burger, which we opted to have with a substitute of Cod Chowder Soup instead of fries for an additional $4. The burger was bursting with flavor, with the bacon infusion and spice blend. As for the Cod Chowder Soup, it was light and packed with generous portions of cod, although some may prefer a touch more salt and pepper. Also, we ordered the Quidi Vidi Iceberg beer, which was light and refreshing.
Staff members members were nice and courteous. They were very prompt with checking in with our meal. The Ship Pub also offers convenient payment options, as they have an ATM on-site and also accept credit cards. Additionally, the establishment boasts an internal bar and a live music stage, adding to its vibrant atmosphere. It is worth noting that the indoor area may lack ventilation, but we found the outdoor patio to be a delightful alternative. Do note, it is not accessible as there are steps for an alley to get to...
Read moreNot what it used to be. Miss the Ship Inn, I remember from the 90s.
Had a really bad experience, back in November 2024. Wife was home in St. John's to say goodbye to her mother. We flew in from BC.
She had one night to relax, after the funeral (which we organized). We hadn't been to The Ship in decades, and remembered the good times we had when we were dating.
We arrived in the afternoon. A live band was playing, and we were having a great time.
After that, we went to check out a couple other places. Decided to come back, to eat. Something must have happened, in the meantime, because the guy running the place was a neurotic wreck.
He was upset about various customers (not us), before we left. But the scene was peaceful.
We went to sit at a table, then all of a sudden, he ordered everyone to leave, claiming there was a private event.
We went to The Duke, and had supper there. Afterwards, we walked back to The Ship, and noticed one of the staff (who we hadn't seen before) putting the sign back out. We asked if the "private event" was over and she said there wasn't one.
My wife started going back in, and neurotic guy said "I don't feel comfortable serving you." Guy was passive-aggressive and didn't explain himself.
My wife was devastated. She was already mourning, then this. We'll never see The Ship the same way. What happened to it?
Edit: Fire Chico, if you...
Read moreThe ship pub used to be a nice place. Now I will avoid even passing over there. The ship pub allowed the singer Matthew Hornell to verbally abuse young international people, probably students. The situation was that the singer was drinking and performing for about 3 hours the table of the international people about 2-3 white young people and about 8 international looking people. Everyone at the bar was talking. It is just a bar no a concert. The singer was getting drunk. I get that the singer may want to have everyone's attention all the time but instead of asking politely to listen to him. The singer decided to use his microphone to scream abusive words to the table of international people as if they were the only ones taking (while most of the people in the bar were talking). The singer was visible drunk, and he was unacceptably rude with the young international people, obviously abusing his power as a performer with the applause of a table of white, middle-aged men. A young-looking, probably Latina girl points out that He was destroying the bar because he was a racist, and he said, yes, I am, using his microphone. The waitress and managers should have stopped him, but they did nothing. We left soon after the table of international people. We were sick with such a terrible show that the Singer Mathew...
