STAY AWAY! To say that this is the worst bar on George St is an understatement. I walked into Trapper Johns hoping to get screeched in. They only do it once an hour so while we waited they took my friendâs credit card to open a tab and the obviously inebriated bartender challenged my friend and I to a game of foosball. When we lost he demanded we give him cash but when we refused he suggested we buy his girlfriend a drink on our tab instead. It was excessively weird but we rolled with it. Once the screeching in took place Terry the owner let us know that theyâd accidentally given my friendâs credit card to another customer at the bar. They took no responsibility for the mistake. My friend had to cancel his card and deal with the bank and service providers to redirect all his bills. It was a major hassle. Trapper Johns took no responsibility for the mistake and actively tried to make my friend feel badly about the situation. Worst bar on George...
Read moreOh, me nerves, what a riot at Trapper Johnâs in St. Johnâs! This place is like a Newfoundland fever dreamâpart pub, part museum, all shenanigans. The Screech-In ceremony? Pure, unfiltered hilarity! Our barman, Bobby, had us in stitches, spinninâ yarns about cod and rum like a salty pirate comedian. Kissinâ that frozen cod (thank the lord it was frosty, not fishy) felt like smoochinâ a popsicle with a grudge, and downinâ that Screech rum? Letâs just say itâs like garglinâ molasses with a kick! The whole crowd was roarinââ20 of us âcome-from-awaysâ chantinâ Newfie phrases and tryinâ not to choke on our âNewfie steakâ (spoiler: itâs bologna). The barâs a bit rough âround the edges, but thatâs the charmâlike yer nanâs attic but with better drinks. Trapperâs got history, heart, and a homemade beer pong table to boot. If youâre in St. Johnâs and skip this, youâre missinâ a proper laugh and a certificate to prove youâre an honorary Newfie. Long may yer...
Read moreThis place was great for getting the traditional NFLD Screeched In ceremony. We had the best time! Our bartender/master of ceremonies greeted us at the door because he had noticed us walk by a few times and made us feel comfortable right away. He was very easy to chat with and accommodated my friend who does not drink alcohol without any shame. The ceremony itself was very fun and without too many crazy bells and whistles. A local offered to film our Screeching In and joined us for conversation afterwords ,adding to our wonderful experience. If you are looking for a casual atmosphere with genuine people this is your place! Thanks Zac for making us official Newfoundlanders, we look forward to visiting the next time we are...
