Another top eatery during our trip around the island and mainland; so much so that we went twice! It’s not difficult to find but reservations are recommended. Our first visit there was less than stellar. We were wet and cold from the rain and were left standing at the front for what seemed like eons while the single server was ignoring us and tending to other things before getting us seated first. In my opinion, he should have seated us and just left us with the menus as I would have been less cranky if I had at least the hope of someone taking my order at some point than standing like unwelcome guests, at the door. When we were seated, the table was dirty and nobody came by again, for an extended period. By then, I was getting rather cranky and ready to get up and leave. The frazzled server finally came by and apologized and then the rest of the evening was just fine. But what a horrible first impression!
The meal and dessert won us over and pushed all the original bad experience to the back of our minds. What amazing execution and menu options! Everything on that menu is delicious and perfectly balanced. At this point in our trip, we have had a lot of potato and more potato so it was a welcome change to have our dishes (seafood especially) served with rice, vegetable and a salad. The dessert menu was full of tempting things too! The deep-fried ice cream with a wild berry (bake apple or partridge berry) is just heavenly. We did also try their partridge berry pie with ice cream but the deep-fried ice cream is the best!
Make reservations. Highly recommended eatery if you can do it because they’ll have you “hooked” and you’ll...
Read moreWas staying in nearby St. Anthony for a couple of days and read about this gem of a restaurant. My party of 4 tried to make reservations, but unfortunately they were unable to give us one because there was a tour bus of guests in the small, but cozy, space. It is a small operation run with care by what I think is a husband and wife duo. While we were unable to get reservations, they said to try to come around 7pm which we did. The place was still packed with the tour bus guests and locals. There was a live musician strumming on his guitar and singing; added such energy to the experience.
The owners seemed a bit overwhelmed but cheerful enough. There was a short wait and I even ended up busing my own table which added to the small-town feel of the place. Not a knock against the restaurant. : )
The food is prepared by a small team of lovely ladies who cooked all their seafood dishes to perfection. I was lucky enough to arrive on their last night of serving lobster as the season had closed off a couple of weeks before arrival. Had steamed mussels as a starter and they were done to perfection. Topped with onions and steamed in white wine. For dessert, had fried ice cream which was surprisingly very good. Liked the food so much that we ended there again the next night. It wasn't as packed, but still busy enough. The prices are quite reasonable for the area. Highly...
Read moreWe went for the iceberg tour and came back for dinner. Good food good service even though it was really busy. Made reservations to go back the next night to have the lobster dinner. Was taking a long time to get our apps, but again it was busy and the waitress was working her butt off. She did finally bring our apps after asking if they were coming. She assured us the rest of our meal was being prepared, after 1.5 hours and watching everyone who came in after us get their meals, we asked where our meals were. The owner came over and apologized that our orders never got put in. Promised us that there was a lobster boiling for another guest, but he would send it to us. About 15 minutes later a lovely lobster dinner comes out and served to table beside us! We felt totally neglected and insulted, so we got up and left. We were very disappointed and left very hungry. UPDATE: The owner Terry reached out and made it right. We did end up enjoying a wonderful lobster dinner with an iceberg in...
