While staying at the incredible Yellownose House in nearby Walkerville, we decided to take a break from relaxing and explore the surrounding communities and villages. After touring the quaint Isle Madame, we found ourselves in the well kept core of St. Peters, NS.
Having driven through this community a few days before, we noticed a few restaurants that might have promise and decided to take a break from cooking and sample some local cuisine.
If you are looking for something more than the standard fare, I suggest you keep looking. There is nothing offered here over and above the standard diner/restaurant/pub fare. Hamburgers, fish and chips, hot turkey dinners... you know what I am talking about. They do, however, also have a pizzeria also which provides some variety.
The decor was ok. I go into places like this and feel there is so much that could be done to improve the feel and experience that then translates into satisfaction, reputation and return customers. However, the place was full when we visited. So perhaps this is not a concern for the owners.
As we visited during the Corona virus pandemic, all protocols were being respected. Fewer tables, masks, hand sanitizer... we felt all the proper precautions were being taken. We would have loved to sit outside on their terrace but it was just a little too cold.
I was surprised with the speed of service. Expect to wait a looooong time for your meal. Despite having half the tables, I suspect they did not have near enough cook staff on. The wait staff had the added duty of disinfecting but this shouldn't have affected customer service. It took a long time to receive menus, a long time to place the order, a long time to receive drinks. We arrived before 6:00pm and it was well after 7:00 before our meals were served. It was nice to see they did offer a couple of local craft beers.
The food itself was good. When asked about the size of the salad appetizer, the server said it was rather small. So we ordered two. However, one would have been perfect for sharing. We both had fish and chips with home cut fries. Being this close to the sea, I always hope for fresh fish. While batter was a little overcooked, the fish itself tasted fresh.
All in all, an ok meal but I'll try elsewhere to see if there are better offerings in this area...
Read moreWe were very disappointed with our visit to MacBouch's. The service was very slow, despite there only being about 8-10 tables and three servers working. We had to wait about 10 min. to be greeted/get menus, no one checked on us while we were eating to see if we needed anything (they would have sold another few pints if they had!), all of the food arrived at the table at the same time, despite us specifically ordering appetizers and mains. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but I have over 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry and this place really irked me as the food was tasty and it could be a great little place for people to visit with just a few tweaks re: attentive service. If you do go, I suggest trying to sit in Leann's section as she was very helpful despite not...
Read moreOn behalf of Blackwood Tours Cape Breton, we a group 20 adults called last minute for reservations. Our reservations for Dundee Resort were not accepted by the resort, after making reservations 3 TIMES!!! We took a chance on calling Mc Bush Pub to see if they could accommodate 20 for dinner. Without any questions, Karen the server said cmon in, I’m sure we will do our best. And that they did with little help on a Usually slow Sunday. Everyone pitched in to help Karen and staff to get the best possible outcome. We were all satisfied with our Meals, drinks, etc. I thank you Russ Burke for your lovely service, and I’m sure we’ll be back. Cheers from a tour group from Big Pond and area. A sincere thank you from Blackwood Tours, Big Pond, Cape...
