Let me preface this by saying I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience at McGowan compels me to warn future diners. Our server seemed perpetually lost. It took an age to get menus, even longer to place our orders, and an eternity to receive the food. The food itself was a huge let down. The initial flavor of the steak was bland, quickly followed by a fetid, ammonia-like tang. It was an aroma that recalled room-temperature hamburger meat from a grocery store that lost power. The skin had an off-putting tang and a rancid flavor, which seeped into the dried-out meat and left a greasy feeling on the roof of my mouth that, like the demonic clown from It, could not be destroyed. The accompanying vegetables were suspiciously lukewarm. I say suspicious because I get the feeling they were scraped off another half-eaten plate and transferred to my plate. I didn't bother complaining to anyone as it looked like the staff were as miserable as the clients. I had a feeling saying something would only get a shoulder-shrug and a "what can you do?" -type response. I will give the restaurant some advice for their menu. They have V for Vegan. There’s GF for Gluten Free. There’s DF for Dairy Free. I think they’re missing a few. There should be TF for Taste Free and JF for Joy Free and AAHYWEH for Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter Here. After I've paid, there was the unshakeable sense that I've been scammed. Nobody should pay this much money to be sad. The drive to Magog doesn't seem so bad anymore. Update (7/30): It is evident that they plagiarized my review and fed it to ChatGPT to generate a disingenuous response (you can verify this by copying and pasting the review into ChatGPT yourself; the output is an exact match). Such behavior is indicative of a complete disregard for addressing customer concerns and a lack of professionalism. This restaurant's management clearly demonstrates incompetence, as many other...
Read moreWe rented out this hotel for a wedding. The rooms are beautiful and the location is perfect. It is a shame that the management does not treat their guest with the professionalism and customer service required for the price we paid to stay and eat here. I should have read the below google reviews regarding the manager’s hostile attitude before booking. She acted like she was being put out by having us stay there for the weekend. We did not get fresh towels, new coffee or tea in the rooms or had anyone remove garbage for the four days we were there. We had dinner there on the Sunday night. The cheap cut of steak was completely undercooked and bland. The potato dauphine was dry and not even warm. The Halibut looked like a microwaved leftover meal from the week before. For the price point we paid for such a dinner, the food should be spectacular. It is completely overpriced for the bland food they are serving. This review seems to match a lot of the ones before me when it comes to the unprofessional and hostile attitude of the manager that would rather deflect the blame and get angry at her guest then to take any accountability for the operations of her establishment. For anyone thinking of going here for a delicious meal, my advice is to stay in Magog and not deal with the attitude of the manager or the tasteless...
