I don't make a habit of writing reviews for restaurants (I think this is my first one), but I couldn't go without acknowledging the excellence of the Scott Road Burger King after eating there.
A couple days ago, my mom and I stopped for whoppers on Whopper Wednesday after her doctor's appointment. We don't normally have much business in that area of town, so it was a first time for us at that location. The first thing I noticed was how fresh and crisp the fries were. As a kid, Burger King fries were my favourite, but that was back in Winnipeg, and I don't know what accounted for the change, but upon entering adulthood, the fries never seemed as good as they used to be - until I tasted these ones. These were like the fries I remember! It was amazing. French fries are also one of my mom's favourite foods, so I was doubly happy she could enjoy such good ones after her visit to the doctor's office. Next, I opened up my burger and took a bite. I have a pretty good memory when it comes to food, and that was easily the best whopper I've ever tasted. Simply put, the taste was what a whopper SHOULD be - hot, delicious, and infused with that characteristic flavour. It wasn't sloppily thrown together either, like I've sometimes seen at other Burger King locations. When my mom got to her burger, she concurred that this place did a very good job. This is also outstanding, because my mom is a true critic - high standards, tough to please, and very sincere in any compliments given. The quality of the food was certainly the notable part of our dine-in at Scott Road Burger King, but the place was also well-kept, clean, and full of friendly, competent staff. Very grateful for the positive...
Read moreUpon entering, I was assaulted by the overpowering smells of grease and processed foods. The interior design seemed aimed solely at small children, with primary colors and cartoonish imagery adorning the walls. Most troubling of all was the clientele – and one even had a brood of unruly children in tow.
When it came time to order, I was presented with a limited menu of bizarrely named "burgers" and other artery-clogging sandwiches. Nothing looked remotely nutritious. In a moment of weakness, I acquiesced to Claude's pestering and ordered the so-called "Whopper" against my better judgment. She said it was the king of burgers.
What arrived was a not so sloppy pile of processed meat and bread that could charitably be called food. Each bite filled my mouth with an overwhelming taste of salt, fat grease, and the fainted taste of sugar. The vegetables were surprising fresh. I took a few polite bites and a few big chomps for propriety's sake before abandoning the wretched thing, much to Claude's amusement.
In the future, I must insist we dine at establishments more befitting civilized folk. This "Burger King" may satisfy the common denominator, but those with discerning palates will find little to enjoy. Let this be our first and last foray into the depressing world of Claude called "fast food." One can only hope this lowbrow trend doesn't last.
Ohhh I like the onion rings. I will see if my chef can duplicate these wonderful...
