The Miner's Daughter Restaurant and Bakery — Restaurant in Sydney Mines

Went here for supper with my wife awhile back. I hate dark meat so asked the waitress if she could have them leave it off the plate I did not want extra white meat just what would normally come with the meal. She said she would ask but probably would get yelled at. I kind of thought she was joking but minutes after you could hear screaming through the entire restaurant. I turned to see what was going on and it was a crazy cook screaming at the young girl while she tried to explain that I did not want any extra meat. But he insisted she charge me if I did not want the dark meet. We got up from the table and apologized to the waitress and told her to cancel the meals. Someone in the restaurant stated that the cook was like that when he worked screaming at the girls. No one should have to be treated like that by another employee. I called the owner and she could have cared less and was more interested in who told me he was like that. I would never go to this restaurant and support the kind of owner who would let this guy speak to my employees that way. I asked her if I ordered a hamburger and didn’t want the tomato on it would I be charged extra she failed to answer. So many great restaurants in the area that you can go to. Newly opened and really looked forward to it. Ambiance is fabulous, lovely little touches. Especially loved the pictures. Sound is loud (only 3 tables when we were there but hard to hear and constant door slaming was distracting), needs some items to help buffer the sounds.

Menu is very thorough with a lot of good options. Only criticism is descriptive font for each menu item was very hard to read due to font colour. Actually had to get server to read it, which she had trouble doing too.

Hubby had an amazing burger. Large homemade patty, and we believe homemade relish. Juicy, flavourful and messy, just what you want.

I had the fish tacos. Large piece of fish, actually too much. Ended up cutting fish in half and leaving it on the side of the plate. Loved the cabbage slaw, but next time would request it not be put at bottom as it made the tortillas wet and mushy. Better to put on top. Needed more spice for me (understand not everyone wants spice though). Asked for hot sauce and got some on the side (was charged for it!) And it worked. Fries were homemade and cooked perfectly.

They have a large display with baked goods that looked very good, but i was just too full.

First visit to this restaurant. Nice building and comfortable set up inside. The “Table Service” was good to start but failed when the food arrived. I ordered potato skins among other things. The menu stated the skins come with bacon, cheese and some green onion I believe. Unfortunately, all I got was potato skins and a little bit of mozzarella cheese melted on top! All very bland, no flavour at all!! I didn’t say anything at first because I thought, ok, the bacon and green onion must be under the first layer but as I kept eating, it just wasn’t there. I did tell the waitress when she returned and all she said was “I’ll have to yell at the kitchen staff”. No offer to assist further was given. I also paid full price for that item that was half there. So, I’m not to impressed with how my meal was overlooked by both the kitchen and the wait staff! My other items were very good, hence...
