I found Burger Baron to be a bit of a hit or miss kind of experience.

Located in Onoway, a little town of 1000 people, Burger Baron is just a few minutes off the highway. The restaurant looks like it’s situated in a renovated mobile home. The exterior is well maintained and has a nice patio with a few picnic tables, but you can see by looking at the place that you’re in for a small-town mom & pop dining experience.

The interior dining area is quite small, but very clean. The furnishings are a little worn and the paintings on the wall have been bleached by the sun, but everything is still kept neat. To add to the small-town charm (and you can’t buy this for love or money) was the little old lady who sat across from us. She proudly declared that Onoway was no longer a village, but now a TOWN! She chatted about everything from the farmers’ fields to how she went to school here since she was in grade five.

The food was a little hit or miss though. My wife had the hot dog, which was perfectly tasty. We shared the deep-fried battered mushrooms, and they were delicious! Likewise, my rum & butter milkshake was thick & tasty. However, I also tried their signature mushroom burger, and it just wasn’t for me. The bun was uncomfortably hot to handle, but it wasn’t the toasted-on-the-grill hot, but more on a slightly soggy I’ve-been-a-warming-oven hot. The sauce tasted like extra-salty Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup. It didn’t taste exactly bad, but for my taste it was too salty for me to finish.

If you’re looking for a quaint little place to eat where you’re going to see a parade of local characters, then Burger Baron will probably be the...

This place actually has pretty decent food if you can stand the ppl that take your orders …. I have a hard time ordering as they are always rushing me and getting the order wrong so I need to repeat myself several times before they get it right, but when i asked them to fix it by putting some different condiments on the burger for an example …. They complained and were very reluctant to do so …(why—- they said it was done……. Annd…? So what put the condiments on!!! I can see they were still working on my order so it’s not like it was in my possession and I’ve taken it back to them…) they tried to make me take the burger as it was without fixing it 3!! Times they came back to me saying it was done without making it right! By the third time I was quite forceful and they finally fixed it!! Just my opinion but if you have poor customer service skills my thoughts are you shouldn’t really be dealing with customers and their orders! Otherwise really...

Renovated now. Wow. Nice inside. Ordered a large Pep mush ham. Cooked to my likeness looks sexy too. Each slice is cut all the way through. Separated easy to eat. So awesome.

I had the lunch special. Single cheese with bacon. $15.74 tax in. They grill a fresh piece of bacon for your burger. The patty tho is like maybe a 1/8 of an inch or so. It has this weird cross hatch on the under side of the burger. The bun and burger fit perfectly together. Its pretty thin. I suggest maybe a double next time. Comes with sauce on it. Onions and pickle’s tomato.

I did not like the radioactive green relish and the oily mustard packages. That i did not like. As well as the baggie of forks and knives you dig your hand into which imagine all the people digging their hands into this plastic bag to find your utensils.

Interior is drab but very nostalgic still. I think a reno is coming i seen them talking about moving a wall out and such. See...

On my first visit to Burger Baron in Onoway, I ordered the Single Canadian Burger and a regular coke, which was a can. I could only expect what I could from a Burger Baron, such as the one off 111Ave & 152 Street in Edmonton. They have a thin, wide hamburger patty, which could at least be an 1/8 of an inch thicker, but for the price, it isn't terrible. On this 2nd visit, I ordered a regular beef donair with cheese and sweet sauce. The sweet sauce was very good, and I wish I knew what it was exactly. I will come back to this Burger Baron in the near future to try other menu items.
