I normally don't call out other reviewers, however Kenneth Green's review was the reason why my wife and I wanted to visit The Seaside. Well, not for his review, but to personally meet Jenny, shake her hand for her AMAZING reply to Mr. Green's review and then to eat the food ourselves to see how it actually was.

We were greeted by Jenny after being seated and I told her the reason why we were here and got a very cheerful laugh from her. She was genuinely happy to see us - as if we were always a part of the local scenery. A most excellent hostess.

My wife, son and I had the chowder and the Solomon Grundy for an appetizer, followed by a cod burger platter (X2), scallops and the infamous mussels.

Having never had chowder before, I didn't have a base comparison except for over 45 years of eating food that tasted good. My wife, also never having had the Solomon Grundy before, relied on her taste buds to assure me that she did indeed enjoy the meal. My 15 year old son stated the chowder was very good too.

My son and I both enjoyed the cod burgers. Fries were done well. I found the store bought burger bun to be of the utmost quality, giving me carbohydrates in the best way possible. My son noted the fries didn't need ketchup. High praise indeed. All three of us enjoyed the scallops together. Now here is where I can rely on past experiences with scallops.

Wow.

Now, the mussels. Kenneth Green said that they lacked flavor and texture. This couldn't be further from the mark. My wife enjoyed the mussels so much, her eyes rolled back and let out a groan that I was pretty sure my son shouldn't be hearing from his mom.

First time I'd heard it too. At least I've got something to strive for.

Jenny, thank you for the experience. You are a wonderful lady, a darn fine hostess, and a pleasure to hear about the local stories from. I hope you have another 45 years of most...

The Seaside Restaurant boasts a picturesque location with stunning views of the ocean, making the drive to the venue an absolute pleasure. The scenic route enhances the anticipation of a memorable dining experience, setting a high bar as soon as you arrive.

The staff and our waitress were exceptionally kind and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere that made us feel at home. Their warm service is a standout aspect of the restaurant and deserves special commendation.

However, the food itself left much to be desired. While the mussels were undeniably fresh, their preparation was lackluster, and frankly, they could be made better at home. The seafood chowder was particularly disappointing, missing the mark entirely with its flavor and texture.

The fish sandwich was a true letdown. Served on a store-bought bun that wasn’t even toasted, it featured a single piece of limp lettuce and a bland, pan-fried fillet of fish. The tartar sauce was gross and did nothing to elevate the dish. Charging money for such a mediocre offering felt like a slap in the face.

In summary, while the Seaside Restaurant excels in ambiance and hospitality, it falls short on delivering a satisfying culinary experience. The beautiful views and friendly service are unfortunately overshadowed by the subpar...

Not sure what all the hype is about for this place? Overall bad experience. We were there Late August 2024.

Service: We waited at the door for over 5 minutes until someone finally came and asked how many. When I said a table for 4, she seemed annoyed and say "for four??". Is that not a normal number of people? She then told us to keep waiting as she went to go set up the table. To our disappointment, the table was right (2m away) beside the toilets, the doors were open and we can see the urinal. We can see slightly bigger tables that are empty so we asked to switch, they said no. We then asked again and finally reluctantly they allowed us to sit outside on the balcony. When they came with the food, she opened the door and hit my brother, she said "I knew that was going to happen" and did not apologize.

Food: Seems pretty fresh, however not much flavour. We ordered 4 mains and 1 appetizer, it could have been eaten by 1 person. The scallops dish was FOUR tiny pieces on a bed of lettuce, it costed over 20 dollars... We finished the food within 10 minutes and was still hungry. Total bill came out to be $120.

This was the first local newfoundland restaurant we went to, ruined our mood and didnt try any more of the local places...
