After being out for a drive from Port Hope with my parents and visiting a couple Christmas markets on a beautiful sunny November afternoon (Nov 16/24), we were driving north up Hwy 62 and happened upon this cozy place. The big sign saying "Restaurant & Bakery" caught our eye as we were on the lookout for a sweet afternoon treat (perhaps a slice of pie).
Once we stepped inside we were welcomed by the sights and sweet aromas of a wide selection of fresh baked pies, cookies, squares and breads. Even a "hard-to-find" Chelsea bun (my Dad's favourite) was sitting on the counter begging us to take it home! Lol
We were just going to have a coffee and slice of pie, but the kitchen smelled so good and the menu looked great so we decided to have some lunch first, then finish it off with pie, which we were very glad we did! I had an egg salad sandwich with chicken soup, my Mom had a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and my Dad had a Reuben with fries. Then for pie I had the blueberry cream, my Mom had the strawberry rhubarb and my dad had the raisin. We of course had to sample each others pies lol!
All our meals were very yummy!! A nice "homemade" feel to them plus the atmosphere of a cozy "old-timey" family restaurant with neat memorabilia and niknaks all around made this a great choice indeed!! I will definitely be back to "Rustic Roadside Restaurant" and pass the word onto others!!

Read moreGO ELSEWHERE. the staff are only nice to those they know, they don’t care about anyone else. this was my first visit and waitress was incredibly rude, so i am never going back to this place.
came for father’s day dinner with my parents after they’d been hyping the place up for a while, so i was looking forward to it. we made a reservation beforehand, only to be told they were off the menu once we got there and were offered three options. my ribs were chewy, half of my fries were undercooked, and the clearly frozen vegetables were bland and overcooked. my parents ordered the roast beef which was advertised (by word of mouth by the waitress) as coming with yorkshire pudding, but did not.
the part that gets me the most is how rude the waitress was, whether intentionally or not; i understand restaurant work is stressful and tiring, but this waitress was listing types of dressings and pie offered for dessert to every table except for ours, and i know this because i could hear her across the restaurant. we were told “all kinds” of dressing, and when we asked about dessert, we were just brushed off and told to go over to look at the options in the dessert bar. i have never met this woman before and i have no idea why she treated me or my parents like this but again,...
Read moreCan I give you guys 10 stars? That's what this place deserves. The portion sizes are HUGE, the flavour is unmatched, the quality is so good, it's like the perfect mix of pub food but it's made with love so it feels like a home-cooked meal? How do you guys manage that? INCREDIBLE! Personally, I would recommend the chicken fingers, or the fish and chips! I didn't order the club sandie, but it looked stellar too, and my niece said she really, really enjoyed it! When I went last, I was with a group of 7 including myself, which already is a handful, but the place was pretty busy and full (always a great sign) and somehow, with only two/three people working the ENTIRE operation, cooking, cleaning, serving, everything, they managed to absolutely just NAIL everything. We didn't have to wait long, despite the lack of staff, and were waited on and dotted on constantly, we never had to try and flag our server down or anything. Work ethic like that is unheard of nowadays and it was just so wonderful and lovely to be able to eat here! Make sure you take a look at the baked good in the glass case at the front, and if they've got fresh made bread available when you go, you make sure you snag a bag. Oh, and peep the turtles...
